We should rebury Henry Kissinger where all those Atari ET games are in the desert.
Atari: Game Over
The search for the buried ET games
Atari E.T. isn’t a bad game.
Let me ask you something. How many people think E.T. is a bad game, now how many people even played the game. You will find that people just assume it’s bad just because we have been saying it’s bad for a long time. Hell. AVGN even gave the game a good review. So why do we all beleve it’s bad. Well alot of has to due with it’s timming, it was the last major game to come from Atari befor the video game crash, and right befor the whole Atari Cartage barul so people assume that Atari just buried a bunch of E.T games cause it just sucked so bad. Well ews flash, they buryed alot of there games, like defender and Aventure as well. It was just a way to get rid of their inventory cheeply. If you still have doughts go watch Atari: Game Over and/or read this http://www.neocomputer.org/projects/et/ where you can also download a version where someone fix all the little nit picks that people complain about in the game. and see for your self.

The atari ET game never ceases to make me laugh. It was the first game contracted in conjunction with a movie. They rushed to get it done within a month. You need much *much* more time than that for the kind of game they were trying to make in that time. Needless to say it failed because of the terrible game mechanics and poor dev. And this was before there was really much quality control as well. They lost tons of money from 1) the contract for the copyright to go along with the movie 2) over production and 3) massive loss of sales. I can't say that this single game caused the impending crash, but it certainly contributed to it. It also contributed to the continuous losses by atari that ultimately made them drop console manufacturing much later and port games only.
So the legend of the E.T. Atari landfill turned out to be all true! And Microsoft's all ready to film this important event...
Simple crappy background this time, yeah
Bonus panel:
you just HAVE to be a jerk about it don't you microsoft
ohmyglob they found it
atari's et dump isn't urban legend anymore
they fucking found it
