according to my research- aswang is an umbrella term for shape shifting creatures. so what falls under aswang are vampires, ghouls, witches and etc. aswangs are generally a mythical creatures yuuh and yes they do tend to have different description depending on the region you are in the philippines :D (correct me if im wrong)
anyways have the hot aswang leader dominic who just appeared for abt three times in the “trese” series ft. the hot manananggal (did i spell that correctly-)

so I’m writing a story with multicultural supernatural myths/creatures and let me tell you about aswangs, as told to me by my godmother:
they are vampirish shape-shifting demons found in the philippines, home to some of the angstiest of all mythical creatures
they look normal in the day so be sure to check for a lip that doesn’t have a normal upper cleft, or check their eyes to see if your reflection is upside down
at night their lower halves separate and their upper halves can fly and they can also turn into a giant ass black dog
they love to eat babies from the womb, so, bummer about that
HOWEVER they are like, super considerate neighbors
they will totally respect your space, so there’s a saying “better an aswang than a thief” because fuck thieves, demons only
americans used to use aswangs as a counter-insurgency tactic in the rural provinces because okay, maybe also fuck demons
surprisingly aswangs are not down with religious iconatry, and to kill them we’re looking at decapitation
but if you have one in the village, you’re probably safe! they are polite to their friends and neighbors and mind their own business
(but check their upper lip just in case)

okay so here are some things about aswangs
Basically, aswangs are Filipino vampires, except, they're not really vampires. In the morning, they're young ladies just minding their own business but at night... Well, the young are now half a young lady, namely their torso, with wings (aswangs are usually depicted as having bat wings) and absurdly long and thin tongues. The lower half of their bodies are usually left unattended at their residence, to be reattached when they get back home. What do they do at night aside from look scary? Easy. They seek out pregnant women for their children. This is where the long tongues come in. I don't remember exactly how they do it, but they suck out the fetus. Yes. I remember one story about a pregnant woman who was sewing and she happened to see a long, red string hanging out from her window. Naturally, she cut it, thinking it was a normal thread, but then she heard a scream. Aswangs like to trick people. They make this sound, I think they just say their name, like "aswang aswang aswang" or something, I kinda forgot, but here's the thing. When it sounds like they're close, they're actually far away, but when they're far, they sound really close. If you do happen to chance upon the lower half of an aswang, cover the severed area with salt. This'll prevent them from joining the two halves of their body. That's about all I have. Just thought someone might be interested in something like this.
