OC Questions - Artist Edition
Answering for Lady Seraphine
1. If your OC does any kind of art, which type/subject do they devote most of their efforts toward?
1a. Is there a particular reason they gravitate towards this?
Well, I originally envisioned her painting so when I created her room and all that's what I put there. Later on though, I saw her as someone that would've learned to play the piano too (very ladylike hobby, after all). So I'll say painting is her primary but piano is still a secondary passion.
2. Is art a hobby or a profession to them?
2a. If they have a different or second occupation, what is it? How do they feel about either?
Work? What is that? A LADY doesn't work, much less a Queen.
Ok, I kid, but really, painting, piano, anything else, are all very much hobbies to her. Hard to call what she does an occupation though. She loves what she does though.
3. Does their art get much recognition? If not, is this by design (ex: the character purposefully keeps their art private)?
She doesn't seek out recognition but people do say what she paints (and plays) is exquisite. She IS talented. She loves hearing it.
4. Where do they get their art supplies? Do they purchase them somewhere or make their own?
4a. If they purchase them, how much does this eat into their budget?
4b. If they make/collect their own supplies, how arduous is the process? Do they truly buy zero components, or do they have to purchase ingredients from somewhere?
She DOES know how to make most paints, actually. She just doesn't bother doing that. Money is no object and her husband du jour never has a limit... or now her slaves. So she spends 0% of her own money but never lacks supplies.
5. How long, on average, do they work on any particular piece?
5a. What is the longest amount of time they have spent on something?
She has spent up to a month. But on average she spends a day or two, depending on how many hours she works straight through.
6. Where and starting from what age did they develop their skills? Were they self-taught? Did they attend a class/school or have a mentor? How long did they study?
She started to paint from a very young age. She may not have been able to afford good paints, or canvases, but she did what she could with what was available. Her parents often bought her painting supplies for her birthday.
As a woman back in the day she wasn't allowed to formally study painting, but once she became a vampire she'd sneak in or compel weak humans to teach her.
Piano she learned later on. Once she married up and was a little bit higher in the society ladder, her friend taught her.
7. Is there any particular piece that has a lot of emotional significance to them? What is the nature of their sentiment?
7a. Are there pieces to which they feel little or no attachment? What were they thinking while working on it?
There has to be one but I'm not in the headspace to make one up.
8. Is there a piece that continues to frustrate them? If so, why?
Probably a painting of Ibis, given the subject.
9. How do they feel when revealing their art to others? Are they coolheaded? Nervous? Proud?
9a. Is there anyone’s opinion they typically value more than others? If so, why?
Oh she's proud. She loves to hear 'you should display this in a gallery' or 'why is this not in the Louvre?'. She values the opinion of women (in general) higher, and of other artists even higher.
