People have been living in Assebroek for quite some time now. After some research we found pictures of how things were before.Â
These pictures were made in the same street, de Astridlaan. De Astridlaan is to this day the main road in Assebroek. Although you probably wouldnât be able to recognise it now.
Miracles in Assebroek
If youâre into churches and cemeteries, Assebroek is most definitely your place to be. The churches have a certain calming atmosphere around them which is worth a visit. The church of Ver-Assebroek is considered to be a place of pilgrimage. If you look around the church, you might be able to find a certain Maria figurine. But this is not just your average Maria figurine. This one has a story to it. The story goes like this: thereâs a Christian man whoâs a crewmember on a boat filled with Protestants. Every night the man would pray to his little Maria figurine, but the others laughed at him and threw his Maria overboard. The figurine did not sink, it kept following the boat. The crewmembers believed this had to be a sign of the devil and tried to threw the Christian man overboard, but when the captain saw this, he demanded for the figurine to be fished up. To this day, the little figurine has a special place in the church of Ver-Assebroek. Want to know a little more? Click here!

Lieve
âIâve been living here for quite some time now. I grew up in a desolate village, so this almost feels like a city to me. The first time I visited this place, I met my husband to be in the local community center! I enjoy the atmosphere around here. Youâre so close to nature, but at the same time the ancient city of Bruges is only 10 minutes away. â

âAs someone who was born and raised in Assebroek, walking around these streets just feels like home. Iâve travelled a lot and I travelled for a long time, but even though Assebroek isnât adventurous, it never fails to make me feel at ease like no other place ever could.â
Are we there yet?
Assebroek is very easy to reach. You can get there by bus, bike, car or (if youâre lucky) even by horse. We canât assure you that the horse is going to be there, but sometimes there is a charming carriage and you can just hop on. Obviously; all of this happens at your own risk. Donât say we didnât warn you! Taking the bus is probably a better idea; itâs cheap, easy and quick. the lines from Bruges to Assebroek are 1 and 11, but itâs probably best to visit the official page of âDe Lijnâ just to be sure, since busses often change their timetables. Assebroek is very picturesque so itâs really nice to have a little ride by bike. You can enjoy the nature and take a little pit stop at the many places that have been created to come at ease. If youâre walking through the streets, you can always catch a glimp of peopleâs living room. And is there a better entertainment than that?Â
