Oooh have fun! I actually have been planning and going back and re-reading some of it myself aha. We’re in early December now so I think in the consequences timeline this time of year is the reprisal loops!

Congrats on getting through your first semester of college! That’s a big transition period, a lot of new things but hopefully a lot of positive ones. It’s really cool to me that you even remember my advice, I’m glad it could be helpful!

Reprisal spotted in the wild! Hahah

Fun fact, the names of the three stories (consequences, aftermath, reprisal) all kind of have similar/adjacent meanings. That's kind of purposeful, the background of each of them is pretty similar- it's all among us and reader decisions.

Uh oh, I feel a ramble about naming these stories incoming-

Consequences was named that as an allusion to the reader vote. A lot of things that happened in that story were a consequence of the way people voted. Also kind of the idea of 'well, these are the consequences for signing up for space travel with a shady corporation'. (Of course, now we know that our main character didn't really sign up in the first place, but most of the others did!)

Aftermath's name had kind of a couple things it applied to. Obviously, the aftermath of the previous story, especially considering the crash for the consequences crew survivors. But aftermath also is an allusion to the aftermath of the events with the Polus crew, where they're all stuck in this planet with no way off and having to deal with the aftermath of that. There's also something to be said about if any of the Polus crew won as impostor (eg green) they get to keep their memories, but this are stuck living in the aftermath of what they did to win.

It also takes on even another meaning when you think about the ending of reprisal. Aftermath is not just dealing with the events of consequences, but with the events of reprisal as well for tan gray.

And reprisal is an interesting one, I actually struggled on picking a name for the third story for a little while. Here, reprisal does refer to a retaliation- specifically in terms of MIRA retaliating against the main cast. The "injury" here is the cast having information on MIRA/the aliens that they don't want them to have. Slowly, it kind of flips, where the crew is retaliating against MIRA in their attempt to escape.

Reprisal is also kind of a play on the word reprise. While technically a different word than reprisal, reprise kinda means to do something previously done again. Works with both the time loop narrative and the gray-tan thing.

We love getting attached to background characters ahehehe. Aftermath Lime is such an interesting character! I feel like quite a few of the aftermath characters didn’t get quite as much character development as the consequences crew characters (there are parts of aftermath I’d love to go back and refine), but there’s really a lot of interesting potential and background between them given the circumstances of their mission.

I wasn’t familiar with the ‘winner takes it all trend’, I deleted TikTok like a year ago lol, but I just looked it up and yeah I can see it, especially given the circumstances of aftermath!

Some fun facts and personality headcanons about her (…or are they just canons since I’m the author??)

she played multiple competitive sports growing up, and was pretty good at them

she’s blunt and will be brutally honest with you, for better or for worse. this is both because of her personality… and the fact that she’s kind of an awful liar

she doesn’t trust easily, even before the events of the series, mostly because she doesn’t tend to see others as as competent as her

her specialty on the AFTRMF crew was comms & security. while in transit to polus on their crew’s version of the skeld, she’d often complain about how far the rooms were from each other and having to walk back and forth between them. (because MIRA tried to cut corners wherever they could, they’d often give their astronauts multiple roles to perform)

she’s secretly a little jealous that everyone seems to listen to Green instead of her, and will find multiple excuses as to why this must be the case

she’s actually quite smart which is how she got on the mission in the first place, but will do dumb things sometimes when her ego gets in the way

she initially didn’t like her hat, she had forgotten to bring one with her and managed to find this one lying around at HQ on launch day, but has since grown to be pretty attached to it

Also, since we’re talking about her, here take this mini comic I made a few years ago about her first interaction with mini lime

I’ll try not to spoil too much, but the VIPs watching them like the MIRA higher-ups, the game-like scenes in Aftermath and Reprisal, “players” eliminating each other.

the biggest parallel is probably the fact that both series are about what happens to the human nature under these circumstances. I think the closest we get to the things we see in squid game is the Aftermath crew, where there is the biggest incentive for winning.

I could totally see the parallel! I’ve only actually seen the first season of Squid Game (I keep meaning to go back and watch the new ones), but I absolutely get what you mean with the whole game-like aspect, especially in Aftermath and Reprisal like you said!

The whole thing too of kinda signing up for something and not really realizing the gravity of it until you get there, but have to keep going and turn on your allies for survival is totally a similarity I could see as well.

And yesss the them of human nature under duress and need for survival at whatever cost, indeed a match as well.

I love the consequences series so much. For almost the entire reading the consequences series, I listened to this song and now I forever associate the song with your fic.

I have never heard that song before now but yeah!! It totally fits! Just the general vibe goes well, especially with the specific version you picked.

A few lines I think that fit particularly well-

“You know you’re better than this” could fit several characters I think if looked at in different ways- Consequences Yellow as she starts to realize something’s off with her, Cyan and her whole morality thing, Gray (especially in the impostor round during reprisal), aftermath Green and any of them stuck in a loop having to play impostor honestly but especially him, and I think Black too kinda blaming herself as the capitan

“With big intention, still posted at your station, always on about the day it should have flied”- big earlier mission and MIRA vibes, like the PREQ and AFTRMF crews who were supposed to succeed and didn’t (still posted at your station is a big one for the Polus crew as they’re literally stuck there)

“And you look dead, half the time” - time loop time loop time loop, also all of the people in the series who were presumed dead but actually weren’t, and also just a general like all these beans have to be so exhausted from everything that’s happened

“Monitoring you like machines do, you’ve still got it I’m just keeping an eye”- my first thought was more literal with vitals, but also like especially Reprisal with the MIRA team (and the aliens on Polus) always kinda watching the crew. Works a lot for reprisal Brown too.

“Afraid to start (how can you lose, how can you lose)” plays into the game-like nature of especially the later entries in the series and the loop

And a few more things fit too but those were the ones that jumped out at me the most.
