Do you have any spanish book recommendations? Like story books? Iām trying to learn and I got two childrenās story books that look interesting for me to read as I improve but Iām always hunting for more. Anything that works for, like, a novice spanish reader to intermediate or expert would be great. Thanks in advance!
i unfortunately have not read many full-length books in spanish but i have read a lot of short stories!! one full length book that is great is la casa en mango street by sandra cisneros. childrenās books are also really great for learning new vocab and stuff so great start!! i also love the works of federico garcĆa lorca, juan rulfo (āno oyes ladrar los perrosā is one story i love), gabriel garcĆa mĆ”rquez, and jorge luis borges. i know there werenāt a lot of specific recommendations in that but i hope this answered your question :)Ā
do you have any history book you like? maybe something like a novel?
thank you sm for asking!! there are a few books on this list i haven't personally read, but i have heard great things and/or enjoyed every book on this list! also i tend to focus on sociocultural history so that's the majority of the books i know. but i hope this helps :)
historical fiction - all quiet on the western front (erich maria remarque) - the book thief (markus zusak) - things fall apart (chinua achebe) - the color purple (alice walker)
nonfiction - the new jim crow (michelle alexander) - the souls of black folk (w.e.b. dubois) - impressions of an indian childhood (zitkala-ŔÔ)
anyone is welcome to add more recommendations in the replies!!
do you have any tip to deal with overwhelming? I'm in the middle of exam seasons and with quarantine, this is going crazy
this is something iāve dealt with A LOT, especially in collegeāso i get you. through family and friends iāve learned some tips and tricks to help prevent getting overwhelmed.
mentally, it is good to take some deep breaths and meditate. this helps to ground yourself and understand that everything that is overwhelming you will pass. one of the best things iāve found to do to stop being overwhelmed from schoolwork is planning. i tend to kind of shut down when i have a lot of work to do but planning when and what work youāll do and sticking to that plan helps the work to get done!!
i hope this helps and feel free to message me anytime!! :)
This is all totally normal! Iām a grad student rn and also had my first day or being a TA today, and I can confirm that I was just as nervous as I was when starting undergrad. Thereās a lot to take in those first few days and it can be intimidating, but also know that youāre gonna be alright and unless youāve got all rude professors, theyāll ask be there to help support you in the transition.
thank you so much :) i really appreciate the responseĀ

November: What are five things youāre thankful for? - my family, my friends, my chance to get an education, kind people, and the privilege iāve been given/the chance to use it for good
Books: What was the last book you read? What did you think of it? (and/or) What is your favorite book?- the last book i read was the martian (iām actually currently reading it for ap physics) and i love it!! the plot is super fun and although i donāt get all of the science stuff itās super good. my favorite book is probably freakonomics. i read it last year for ap lang and it was super thought provoking
