are there any sillies you’re rotating around in your brain?

Ok, took a while to get my thoughts together, cuz there has been one singular guy floating in my noggin.

Context: This is basically a cyberpunk world and the main setting is a starship, the Brightlight, on a 5-year interstellar voyage to the Teegarden Colony. Funky stuffs are going to happen to the ship (this literally started as a prompt for a doomed spaceship crew). And as one of the botanists on board, introducing Kasper.

Born in the agricultural community of Svol-15 on the moon of Callisto, Kasper followed in their footsteps and became a botanist. However, midway through a 5-year contract to help grow food for the crew of the Eris Relay Station, an asteroid mining accident in orbit of Callisto damaged much of the Svol Catena below. Among the casualties were the people he grew up with. And so he completely lost it in his grief, to the point of endangering the rest of the crew and losing his arm from breaking a steam pipe.

After the contract was resultingly terminated early, Kasper had to return home, but never to Svol-15, never contacting his surviving friends and family members. His once cheerful, if introverted, personality has warped into being emotionally reclusive, and he coped by basically trying to avoid acknowledging what has happened, acknowledging he had a home. After bouncing around for a while being then being coerced by his former employers. He is running away from it all by boarding a starship to a far off planet. Maybe that far away from the Solar System, he can start all over.

He can now mostly concerns himself aboard the Brightlight with what he has done best, botanical work. Though his sole solace has been in plants, eventually, it's only a matter of time, trapped inside a starship for years, that he will connect with someone else. And even when travelling faster than light, his past may still catch up. But maybe he don't have to face it alone, maybe he can finally acknowledge the person before the tragedy as also himself.
