It saddens me everyday that Disney stopped adapting stories into animated movies. Cause like there are so many interesting mythological, legendary, folktale and fairy tale characters from different cultures/countries who are less known by big main stream media who deserve to have their stories adapted by Disney.
Next up for the portraits of Enya's crew we have Ash Lad.
Born and raised in the Northwest Kingdom of the White Empire, Ash Lad is one of the few crew members with no magic. That doesn't mean he's useless though. His remarkably good hearing and quick, out of the box thinking make him a vital part of any heist.
Thank you @trashyspud330 over on Instagram for this amazing art and a quick reminder that book 2 of the series this character features in, The Matchstick Girl, is coming out July 10, 2026. Pre-orders are available now!
No GenAI was used for any of this art.
Hi, do you know any fairy tales when the MMC is mistreated by his family but ends up marrying a princess, like a male "Cinderella"?
Thanks
To answer you it will be very easy, since we just talked about it in a previous ask. The "Princess on the Glass Hill" fairytale, a famous Norwegian fairytale from Asbjornsen and Moe's collection (that later became the core of an entire fairytale type of the same name, ATU 530). It is also known as the "Maiden on the Glass Mountain": Gail Carson Levis (of the "Ella Enchanted" fame) quite notably rewrote it as "Cinderellis and the Glass Hill", which was purposefully advertised as "a real male Cinderella story".
It is quite a literal male Cinderella story, since the hero of the story is the Norwegian stock character/archetype of "Askeladden" (Ashlad, Cinderlad). Ash-covered boy with two nasty older brothers who ends up winning the hand of the princess, with magical help, after making three appearances under a disguise, and there's even glass at the center of the tale!
Character
Ash Lad
He will, as of now, be in the class of Bard and the race of Halfling. The halfling race has a specific trait of being lucky and if you know the Ash Lad folktales it fits him spectacularly. And as a bard he uses magic and music to fight his enemies or to boost morale in the team. Therefore we wanted to give him a lute shaped like a big wooden ladle, and he needs some other weapons so we talked about maybe giving him a sling and/or a dagger.
As for his looks he is gonna be like a young white boy with blond hair. He will have clothes that resembles the norwegian national outfit for men; so a white shirt and a red vest, some brown pants(maybe capri) and no shoes(because thats just vibes)
