I'd say this chapter is very painful (shocker) and explores themes of complex regret, destructive curiosity, and the ever stacking dangers mounting in Mawthorne. We start to see cracks in everyone under pressure, darkness emerging in expected places building towards collisions and meltdowns.
Chrissy's role is a huge piece of Steve's journey. Not only has she haunted the narrative from the very start, but she's the dark manifest of Eddie's early, untrained obsession, his first "pancake" in many respects. She's seen a side of Eddie that Steve never has. Chrissy survived Eddie, she got away and broke his spell but at great cost. It brings Steve to a point where he either has to accept painful realisations or bury himself deeper in denial, thus isolating himself further.
We have more people in the spotlight now; Billy is back, Chrissy is here, Hopper is becoming more involved, Tommy is haunting Eddie, Nancy is digging, some of Eddie's six are in town. Will, Cody, Clattenburg, Callahan. So many parts amid the bloody mess.
Ultimately, this chapter explores the slow cracks starting to show under enormous pressure and stress from the events of New Year, felt through the group in different ways, plus new arrivals with their own motives. The chapters are only going to get darker from here on out and Prism is a horror story before anything else, so strap in, read the warnings and let's get 🖤✨💎🌈Prism Summer underway!
