Tom lingered in his doorway. Sitting in the middle of his front room was a slight woman with leaves and twigs in her hair, hands held towards the fireplace, and what appeared to be a set of Hogwarts robes. Those were worse for wear. Her disheveled state didn’t bother her in the slightest.

“I’ve left the wards intact,” she said.

Tom didn’t lower his wand, but his stony expression did crack into a confused frown. “I’d noticed.”

“They’re very well made, you know. But you’re not what I expected.”

Standing, the nymph-like witch barely reached his shoulder. He couldn’t guess her age. He didn’t even know his own. 

After another minute or so of a stalemate, the witch smiled broadly at him and said, “I’ll make tea.”

His hidden home soon smelled of tea and warmed scones. Though he’d brandished his wand at her out of instinct, he couldn’t be buggered to remember a single spell. The wards on cabin were there before he got there and open to him. One moment he’d been staking out his filthy muggle father’s house and the next waking up in the sitting room of a single-room cabin, with a nasty headache and a note in his handwriting on the bed.

Wait for her.
