We'd love to hear what you guys think, and about anything else in the above images 💚 Like the art style of the character? How about the vibe of the background? Any notes/opinions/suggestions? Tell us all about it! We can't wait to show you guys more!
I'm trying to figure out how to color well since that's my least favorite process of drawing
More Naruto stuff wow 👀
Color Theory!
Thankyew @chow0w for letting me slurp up your color theory skills. There’s still a lot of work to be done with character design and complex palettes. This one is a triad scheme- orange/red, green midtone, and blue. Everything gradients from one color to the other too. I used the shading to hide it somewhat, but there’s green between the blue & orange to make them blend nicely!
There’s red in the deeper warm hues and blue in the brighter cool tones, so I mixed them for purple to determine the eye color.
Vibrancy is my main weak point. I start with a darker background because it’s less on my eyes, but I think that’s contributed to my less saturated pallets. To combat that, I use numbers! I noticed Chowbowaow keeps saturation around 60-80%, and 50% for the highlight. Chow also uses subtle dots for the primary light, some fun simple texture shapes, & a few hatching spots sometimes for highlights. I couldn’t experiment with those shapes since this was pre-drawn a month before, but I’d like to later on just for fun.
The main focus of this study is to bring vibrancy back into my art style, and so far, we are on to a very good start! ^^
