• Plot •

A new drug has been formulated by Dr. Graham, that claims to be able to separate man into two being, of good and evil. Dr. Jekyll goes out of his way to test this new drug without telling anyone, drinking the concoction, and turning into the bestial Mr. Hyde. He quickly turns back with the use of the drug, and excitedly goes to document his findings.

Dr. Jekyll continues his life, becoming the suitor of his unnamed beloved. His happy life is thrown into dismay, as Dr. Jekyll starts to turn into Mr. Hyde against his will, and without the use of the drugs. He causes mayhem among the village.

Mr. Hyde uses Dr. Jekyll as a disguise, to hide himself from the law; However, on a day out with his lady in waiting, the panicked Dr. Jekyll begins to transform, and runs away. Post-transformation, the evil Mr. Hyde attacks her, but is stopped by her father, leading to his tragic death.

Her father is declared dead as Mr. Hyde runs away from the scene, being chased by a policeman. By the skin of his twisted teeth, Mr. Hyde makes it back to his study and transforms back into Dr. Jekyll, fooling everyone once again.

Dr. Jekyll makes the realisation that he must leave, as he an no longer control Mr. Hyde. He confronts his mourning sweetheart, and tells her of his going-away, but Mr. Hyde comes out one last time, and runs away.

Now that all of the transformation drug has run out, Dr. Jekyll knows he is too late, and must remain as Mr. Hyde until the end. He escapes to his study, and lashes out neurotically. This catches the attention of Mr. Poole, who contacts the police.

As Mr. Hyde rampages, and destroys everything in the study, the policeman breaks down the door, surrounded by the towns people. In a last ditch effort to escape fate, Mr. Hyde drinks a phial of poison, and lays dead as the townsfolk pile into the study.

• Fun Facts •

This is the earliest known surviving copy of any J&H movie media.

In the first scene of the movie, it is implied that Dr. Jekyll isn't the inventor of the drug, but "Graham." Despite this, Dr. Jekyll still subjects himself to becoming a labrat.

Dr. Jekyll has white hair in this movie.

There is a drawn still in the final scene, of Mr. Hyde holding a bottle of poison, instead of a live action shot.

This adaptation takes inspiration from the 1887 stage play, rather then the original novel.

Marguerite Snow is James Crues real life wife.

James Cruze is one of prettiest actors I've ever seen, his face is perfect for the screen. He has wonderful expressions. I love this movie to bits.

Dr. Jekyll and his sweetheart are literally so cute together in this, it makes my heart melt. Our Jekyll fictive has a crush on this specific version of his sweetheart.
