sometimes i like testing out free drawing programs and thought it'd be neat to test some iPad ones. The following drawings will have been drawn in the exact order provided in the screenshot! (all having been 20-40mins)

Sketchbook and Freeform.

Sketchbook to me is the closest that i could get quickly comfortable with and had a variety of brushes, SO many brushes. It was actually kind of crazy how many different types of brushes they gave you to choose from for free AND actually let you adjust them. One of the things that i loved was that it has Lock Transparency and that it didn't just shove a subscription right in your face the second you opened the app. you are given the option to pay like 3 bucks for more tools and such, but honestly the app alone as it is (for free) is so awesome. This one is def a keeper.

Freeform isnt exactly a drawing application, so the only drawing tools you get are the default Apple ones you'd normally use while taking notes or drawing on pictures, but they ARE usable and cute!! infact i've used the note taking app alot when drafting big drawings or just to doodle an idea quickly- but w/ Freeform you get more of a "canvas" and get to import photos for eyedropping palettes and such. No layers tho :) ALSO, it mightve just been my crappy old ipad, but it would crash anytime i tried to export the drawing (only lets you export as PDF)... so a screenshot was all i could do.

Art Set and MagicalDraw.

Art Set was VERY fun, but oh man... It very obviously wants you to pay to even adjust the brush size (and choose other types of brushes...). The default brushes they give you are VERY versatile in general as it's an app that simulates painting in oil, pastel, water color, etc etc. It gives you different types of papers/bgs to use, has palettes and a color wheel, no layers (since it's a paid option, and various more options...). For what it gives you as a free app, it's good. I like it, it's a challenge i'm willing to take as a fun exercise.

MagicalDraw is a cute app if you want to paint with your friends but i wouldnt use it as a main drawing app lol. It does seem to be active and has various public rooms available. It also lets you create canvas' up to 3000x3000 (and make private rooms even w/o making an acc!) I will say, the lasso tool came in very handy and was practically how i was only able to draw comfortably- you are very limited in basically everything. It does provide you with 2 layers by default and a timelapse feature if you so desire to export! I think it's a website normally so i'd have to check it out again on my laptop since i've only heard/seen of it from the app store.

(Tayasui) Sketches and Adobe Fresco.

(Tayasui) Sketches.... is fine? Shoves a subscription the minute you open the app so thats cool. With the free tools it gives you, you can definitely make something out of it but you can only use one canvas. The lasso tool was fun to use but i was a little sad that i found it last minute...

Adobe Fresco is like Sketchbook but slightly better. While i hate Adobe with all my heart, it IS a good free app that gives you various brushes and unlimited layers. I'd say this is the closest "clone" you could get to if you're normally using Clip Studio Paint- only downside is that you do have to sign up if you want to save at all or even export your drawing... In fact i'd honestly prefer using Sketchbook over Fresco.
