Hidden Hands 🦋
I'll render this one day so they'll look like actual statues... my beloveds...
little malenia wip
so, Malenia. to me she’s always been the odd one out of the Twin Empyreans. Miquella is an apparent pacifist, known and named for his Kindness, and Malenia is his self-styled Blade, notorious for being extremely good at violence. Malenia aged to adulthood whereas Miquella remained eternally young, and just like his mother has Radagon, Miquella has an alternate self in Saint Trina whereas Malenia has no other self. …right?
Millicent and her siblings are described as Malenia’s buds, her offshoots, positioning them as offspring rather than counterparts. I do believe that’s the case for the other would-be valkyries, but I wonder if Millicent might be something else, something much more akin to Saint Trina or Radagon? in her words, Millicent says she could be a ‘sister’ to Malenia if she isn’t a daughter or an offshoot. she also feels an urge to return a sense of self to Malenia, something she doesn’t really have a way of knowing that Malenia is missing. I do wonder if Millicent would have returned the missing pieces to Malenia by merging with her if her sisters hadn’t intervened, the way I interpret Radagon and Marika as having existed separately for a time before their bodies combined into one.
I think most people would agree Millicent feels different from her sisters? she has a will of her own where it could be argued that her sisters may not, she suffers from scarlet rot in a way her sisters aren’t shown to (I can’t imagine Gowry having to obtain Needles for every single one of Millicent’s sisters) and she has some sort of connection to Malenia that seems to go beyond being one of her valkyries. I think there’s an argument to be made that she’s a kind of misplaced counterpart, a sort of delayed half of the rebis that would normally be comprised of her and Malenia. what could cause that, I don’t know, but maybe Malenia and Millicent represent some iteration of whatever phenomenon resulted in Radagon and Marika starting out as separate people. I really do wonder if this is a connection I should have made a lot sooner. it feels like it makes sense, though maybe there’s a detail I’m missing here that contradicts this?

Find Miquella. Protect him. Those were the last words Godwyn had spoken to her. And so Malenia had. Even if she had known that this would be the outcome, she could not deny that she would make the same choice again. She would make it a thousand times over, surrendering Godwyn to a thousand deaths, if it meant keeping Miquella safe. If he could still speak, would he curse her?

Birth of a Goddess
Malenia as Eve by Solomon Joseph Solomon ↓
One of my favourite things to imagine is Malenia curling up against and around Miquella while knowing her limbs are much too long for it, that they'll fold and jut whichever way just to accomodate enveloping his small frame. and maybe her prosthesis will dig into her flesh whenever she does it, and she'd be in pain for it. but at least Miquella's arms could reach around her, and then the pain would be secondary for once.
