Visual thinking
Dear F, With the whole being and artschool student and stuff, you meet a lot of people that work with the visual side of art. Well, basically everyone around me does. So how we all have our connection with visuals is sometimes a topic of discussion. I don’t know how this goes for musicals too, but most of the people at my school are visual thinkers. That’s kind of an accepted common thing for everyone at my school. Even teachers say things like “since you’re all visual thinkers (...somethingsomethingsomething...)” They always think in images and visuals. well... I don’t. sort of... The thing is, that definition never felt right for me. I don’t think in visuals, I think in poetic sentences or nice sounding descriptions and explanations, but mostly I just think in thoughts... So maybe I am a word-thinker than, which is on the opposite side of the spectrum from visual-thinker. But that definition doesn’t feel right either because even though I do think in words most of the time, those words are visual. This is kind of hard to explain but I think you will understand because you have talked to me in person. If I explain something, I speak very visual. I compare things to bars and shapes, to colors and lines. I explain in visualizing words. (I believe I originally explained my tiny-love-theory to you using bars and lines that had width and height) I am also a massive synesthesist, I see colors with letters and numbers, but those colors are also linked to shapes and personality in my head. There all the same thing and that’s very logical to me. I find triangles or the number 2 way more sympathetic than circles or the number 1 for example. So I am a word thinker but my brain has I clear connection to visuals, and that is also one of the reasons that I feel so at home at an art school. But I still don’t think in visuals. So recently I found the perfect sentence to describe this: “I’m not a visual-thinker, I visualize thoughts” I am proud of that sentence, and of that ability, I wouldn’t want it any other way but I am glad I now understand myself a little bit better and have the perfect way to explain it. So, how about you? I guess you don’t think in music all the time, but maybe you do... that’d be fun, but also kind a chaotic... Anyway I am curious. Let me know. W.
