I love when you make the Al Ghul's a version of the adams family. All the potential harm from a place of love and care, all the murder attampts and poisons. I don't know, it's very amusing
skfngjjs tbh i just sometimes get very tired of the moral and ethical arguments that constantly go on regarding how families Should be in order to be considered ‘healthy’ or ‘functional’. like it’s fictional. sometimes i just want interesting-dynamic cracky-bullshit without real world consequences. i want to see a family that is fully abusive and fucked up towards each other in like 20 different ways but Also they are a family and have deep fondness for each other regardless of said unethical practices. does Ra’s literally torture Jason in the name of experimentation on a weekly basis? yeah. but also he’s Jason’s cool murder grandpa so oh well, Jason’s not gonna hold a grudge:). does Talia surrender Damian and Jason to the harsh and at times horrific training regiments of the league, forcing them to be soldiers when they don’t want to be and scarring (mostly Damian) them for life? yeah. but they still have dinner together most nights, and really what are you gonna do? does Jason threaten to kill everybody around him in horrendously violent rageful fits on occasion? yeah. he’s put Talia in the medical suite while blacked out on pit rage multiple times; has backhanded Damian across the room and regularly gets into such vicious fights with Ra’s that his guards are starting to think Jason is plotting to usurp him. does the rest of the family really care? no. the family is already violence and murder filled, who gives a fuck. did Damian try to kill Jason multiple times to stop him from stealing his status as heir to the Demon’s Head? yeah, and Jason still gets wary when the kid comes in his room at night for nightmares. but meh, life goes on. they keep meeting up for family breakfast and the world keeps turning.
i honestly think the prospect of a cobbled together ages old family living as royalty in an isolated magic murder cult that normalises things like death and pain and violence really is the perfect environment to create the dynamic of a family that is loyal and loving to each other in their own way, it’s just that their perceptions of life and existence are so fucking removed from what is considered Good everywhere else that what They don’t mind and what They don’t blink at, anywhere else would instantly get childline on call without question. and both Jason and Damian are in the league which really makes the Al Ghuls the perfect playground for that setting, especially because it adds in the glorious trope of the rest of the bats getting tiny glimpses into this wild set of dynamics years later and just. bluescreening from bafflement and concern.
