The "she’s too busy being a magical spirit to have a crush" argument is so tired as well.

Since when did having ice powers and a water horse mean you lose the capacity for human connection?

Jennifer Lee literally said the "door is open," but some of you act like you’re the ones holding the deadbolt shut.

Since when did "wanting a character to find love" become a regressive concept? Especially a character whose entire arc is about overcoming isolation? Elsa spent 21 years behind a closed door and another three years learning not to be afraid of her own touch.

Wanting her to experience the intimacy, partnership and happiness she was denied for most of her life isn't "pressuring" her, it’s wanting her to have a full human experience.​

Jennifer Lee herself has said they haven't ruled anything out and that the conversation is always happening.

Elsa’s story is literally not finished. If the literal creator of the franchise is leaving the door unlocked, why are some of you so obsessed with slamming it shut and bolting it?

​Let people enjoy things.

Speculating about Elsa’s heart isn't a dumb energy, it’s literally what happens when a director creates a complex, relatable character and then tells the audience "Hey, her story isn't finished yet."

In Polar Nights, Elsa literally says that a woman who is capable of taking care of herself can still be in a relationship.

She isn't "avoiding" love because she's strong, she’s acknowledging that independence and a romantic partnership aren't mutually exclusive.

And for the people who insist she has to be Aromantic to be "empowered":

​Aro people can still have relationships! Aromanticism is a spectrum, and plenty of aro-spec people have partners or QPRs.

​Independence isn't a personality trait that bars you from love.

So. Aroace Elsa. 

Personally, as an aro, Show Yourself is probably one of the songs that I’ve related to most when it comes to my romantic orientation. I mean, she literally spends most of the song singing about this ‘other half’ this person who will ‘complete’ her, and that’s how I felt about romance when I was younger. I thought I’d meet the perfect partner, and we’d dance off into the sunset together. Obviously, as I got older I realized that vision was absolute bullshit.

I had some internalized aphobia and arophobia as a kid. I used to be terrified that I’d turn out to be ace or aro, and I told myself I didn’t care what my sexual or romantic orientation was, just so long as I wasn’t ace or aro (gender wasn’t even on my radar at that point). The first feeling I had when I learned of the existence of ace and aro people was pity. 

Because I’d been raised in this amatonormative society, and I’d internalized the messages that were constantly being fed to me. I had a boyfriend in third grade, and everyone around us, my parents, his parents, our friends, our teachers, everyone thought it was the cutest thing. I look back on it now and go, “We were nine! What the fuck was everyone thinking?” 

But back then, I thought nothing of it. So goddamn creepy.

But, I digress. 

Show Yourself is so important to me because Elsa spends almost the whole song with the exact mentality I carried with me throughout my childhood, until she realizes—that mentality? It’s bullshit. And she realizes, she doesn’t need that perfect partner. She doesn’t need anyone to make her whole, because she already is.
