I am admitting UP FRONT this is a convoluted post.
I've done my math, you'll have to follow with me.
I'm tying together 1957's The Enemy Below; 1958's Run Silent: Run Deep; the 1961 Twilight Zone TV Series episode, "A Quality of Mercy;" the Star Trek: The Original Series season one episode, "A Balance of Terror," and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' season one finale episode, "A Quality of Mercy."
1957's THE ENEMY BELOW
During WWII an American destroyer discovers a German U-boat, and in the ensuing duel the American captain (Robert Mitchum) must draw upon all his experience to defeat the equally experienced German commander (Curt Jurgens).
Some battle tactics and dialogue taken verbatim from this movie are in the STTOS episode, "Balance of Terror."
1958's RUN SILENT RUN DEEP
A U.S. submarine commander (Clark Gable) who's obsessed with sinking a particular Japanese ship butts heads with his first officer (Burt Lancaster) and crew.

1961's THE TWILIGHT ZONE'S SEASON 3 EPISODE "A QUALITY OF MERCY"
On the last day of World War II in the Pacific, hot-shot new Lieutenant Katell (Dean Stockwell) tries to make his mark on military history and receives a unique perspective on his actions. Leonard Nimoy appears as Hansen.
1966's STAR TREK: THE ORIGINAL SERIES SEASON ONE EPISODE "BALANCE OF TERROR"
The Enterprise must decide on its response when a Romulan ship makes a destructively hostile armed probe of Federation territory. Mark Lenard guest stars as the Romulan ship commander, and Garry Walberg as Commander Hansen of Outpost 4.
2022's STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS SEASON ONE FINALE EPISODE, "A QUALITY OF MERCY."
In the season one finale, just as Captain Pike thinks he's figured out how to escape his fate, he's visited by his future self, who shows him the consequences of his actions.

It was only when I got older that I came to understand they had valued your friction much more than your company but as we danced and drank and drank and danced to Jello and Elvis and Sid to Lou and Iggy and Patti and smoked big, fat spliffs of cheap tobacco mixed with pot and danced and drank some more you owned me completely Still, after all this time I wish I could forgive you for your cruelty and myself for my need for when I picture your face I  mostly remember two things the complete and total lack of joy in your face when you smiled and the burning hatred that kept me warm when you held me in your arms I suppose I ought to thank you for letting me go
