my junior year of high school was a best year for me academically where i learned a lot of things & got the best grades of my high school career  but due to the amount of work & extra curricular i never really go to read as much novels or draw as much & or written as much as i wanted to this year.
Whoever decided to put senior ball in the middle of ap testing can go swimming with the cacti
Been a pretty frickin good day. And to top it all off here I sit drinking a hot cup of tea while reading Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's A Scandal in Bohemia for AP English.Â
I hope you all have had as lovely of a day as I have.
i just finished watching this week's episode of modern family and it really resonated with me because when i was in high school, i was exactly like alex. the fact that i went to an incredibly competitive high school probably didn't help either- in fact, it probably exacerbated it and made me work harder to satiate the perfectionist in me. even though it's been almost a decade already since i was in high school, this episode hit the nail on the head.
for me, it was pretty clear since i was a child that i was going to turn out like that. my teachers always pointed out how organized and hardworking i was. but i remember in 5th grade, the cracks began to show, when my teacher pulled me out of class to talk about a creative writing assignment i'd written, where i talked about the pressures of doing well in school, being a piano prodigy, weekend language school, and still trying to be a normal kid. me- a 10 year old, talking about pressure and stress.
it didn't get much better. a year later i found myself setting alarms for 4:30 in the morning to finish an ambitious reading assignment that the teacher ended up canceling. i was the only student in the class who had finished the book on time, and i had nothing to show for it besides the growing bags under my eyes. this carried on- with an increasing workload and an even more demanding piano repertoire, i found myself having to explain to my parents why 13 year old me was sleeping at midnight and waking up at 4- even in the summer. it wasn't that i wanted to- it was because i felt i HAD to, like the option of failure or quitting had never even crossed my mind. i still remember how i broke down in tears in the car when my dad picked me up from school and i had to tell him i had gotten a B. he had no idea how to comfort me, because he had no idea how much it meant to me. unlike most asian parents, my parents never, ever pushed me to get straight A's or to do this-and-that: it was all self-wrought.
fast forward to high school, when i was alex's age and things really unraveled. i had a maxed out schedule in school with all honors classes aside from my music courses. i was in a chamber ensemble. i was in a tour chorus. i was a violinist in a tour orchestra- all while training to be a concert pianist. there were times where i could count the hours of sleep i had gotten that week on one hand alone. and before i knew it, i found myself slamming the keys on the piano and succumbing to a nervous breakdown. my parents came into the room and sat on both sides of me, trying so hard to understand why i was like this- why i pushed myself so hard, why i couldn't ever give myself a break and just be a normal teenager. and that scene where alex cries in claire's arms just took me back to that moment in time. but despite everything, i wouldn't change a thing, because it taught me how to be tough and how to know my limits and make decisions accordingly. but most importantly, it taught me the value of making your own wellness a priority.

I am a master of procrastination...I just finished a 400 page book, essay on said book, and 10 page science fair project over the scope of two days which include 2 family gatherings. AND I'm going to get a whole 3 hours of sleep! Now, the final test...what will the grades on those assignments look like? :P
*mainly goes to school to turn in notebook for one* *walks out of house without it* -.- le sigh This is what happens when you have no sleep.

We hate going to tutorials for normal kids because we finish all the handouts before the teacher is done talking.
