An interesting look into the iconography of the âFoolâ and itâs history on the stage. Iâm posting it here, because of the Foolâs old ties to religion and also because of the interesting parallels drawn to other folkloric archetypes.
For one, the witch as a motif is often seen as a figure thriving on the outskirts of society, and is occasionally( but not always) also a character not necessarily in opposition to the church, but definitely in reverse of it. This is exactly the way the William Willeford depicts the world of the Fool: A reversal of the common way.
Two other parallels that I find intriguing are expressed through the âhierarchy of Foolsâ.
Mother Folly is to her denizens as the Devil is to his âdemonsâ, and as the Queen of Elphame is to her âcourtâ.

Erasing a characters canon identity for your ships
Why? why would you do this?
I get it that you like to head canon personality traits but to completely erase a characters identity by doing so?Â
Itâs not the character anymore. At that point its just an OC.
If you are going to use head canons to try and build off of canon material for theories or create fan content please keep in mind these characters have an identity already, head canons are just there to help elevate those canon identities.Â
Donât take a strong willed person and change them into a damsel for your ships.
Donât take a confident character and turn them into only self-hatred and angst for your ship.
Donât take a character that has trouble showing their feelings and turn them into an asshole for your ships.
Keep all of that to AU fanfic please, donât try are force it on all fanon and canon content.Â
