He didn’t understand. He didn’t understand! Seeing the ruthless killing of an innocent Another. The Another wasn’t the culprit, yet they didn’t care. Arata attempted to tell them, to clear the air but they didn’t listen. So why? Why did they want Anothers to be the enemy so badly? And every time he brings it up, they wave him off or try to get him to understand that they could manipulate him. As if humans hadn’t manipulated him before. He knew. He knew that humans weren’t saints themselves. He knew that Anothers weren’t either. That didn’t mean it was okay to kill them for no reason! The Another was terrified yet they somehow saw it as aggression? He tried. They dismissed him. Why? Why did they do this? How could they do this and think what they did was okay? “Arata?”
“Don’t touch me!” he exclaimed, throwing himself away from Theo’s outstretched hand. “How could you? They didn’t even do anything wrong! They were terrified! You killed them for no reason!” His voice broke but he kept going. “They were in the wrong place at the wrong time and I tried! I tried telling you! You never listen!”
“Arata—“
“Don’t!” he hissed, his voice going low. “Do not try to tell me I’m wrong. You—you think I’m naive and that I’d be manipulated by them. Yet, it was a human who had that honor before.” His eyes burned. He ignored it. “It doesn’t seem to matter what I say. I’m done.”
“Miyako, what do you mean?” Kyouichi’s voice held his confusion well—he almost didn’t hear the disbelief and slight anger.
“I’m done. I quit. I am not going to help you, not with killing innocent Anothers. You take my words and throw them to the side, you don’t heed my desperate warnings, and you kill for no reason. I’m done.” He didn’t stay long, quickly walking away and taking a bus home. He worked there for a year and a couple of months now. He didn’t have to turn in a two-week’s notice, which was good. He couldn’t deal with another week.
