The first fic I worked on for the Dragon Age Big Bang (@dragonagebigbang) is up now, and that means I can show off this art!
For "Show Me Who I Am and Who I Could Be" by hartbreaker on AO3, aka @roguespeedster here on Tumblr. I couldn't pass up an opportunity to draw Lucanis, and her Rook was a delight to draw and color too.
My favorite parts of this piece? Their hands nearly touching, and the way the ripples in the eluvian right around Rook's arm and leg turned out. I keep staring at those. Watch me not remember how to do that again next time I need that effect. đ
And speaking of their hands, the banner I made to go with the work, as seen on the DABB blog:
Now. Go check out the fic, and then the rest in the collection so far!
for the Make me write, are you still doing the "alec and raphael kidnapped together"? bc i love that one đ„°
I am still writing that fic, yes! It's part of my "I want to finish the fic before i start posting it" group of fics. (I also haven't made much progress on it lately because there is one plot point early-on that I keep changing my mind on.)
Anyway, snippet from the fic!

"Clearly, you're not," the vampire echoes, the statement hovering somewhere between bored and exhausted. He leans back against the railings on his cell, legs stretched out in front of him.
Alec catalogues the visible injuries without meaning to.
There's a deep gash in Santiago's left thigh, and a long welt that spans from ankle to his knee. There are bruises in various stages of healing spread across his skin, deep shadows that range from shadowhunter black to a sickly green. The only thing Alec doesn't see are signs of broken or bruised bones, although that could be the result of Santiago's vampire healing.
However, that does raise the question on how his other injuries failed to heal. And why the vampire is by far the most injured downworlder inside the room.
"How long have you been here?" Alec asks him after several lapses of silence. He ignores the way it makes the other downworlders jump, concentrating on Santiago, who is still sitting on the ground, exhaustion and torture carved into his skin, and yet failing to make him cower the way the others are.
Alec is begrudgingly impressed.
"You can answer that question better than I can," Santiago deadpan

The obvious questionâwhy do women organize against their own freedomâis thorny.4 In her 1983 book Right-Wing Women, radical feminist author Andrea Dworkin tried to answer it. She described three types of antifeminism. âMan dominantâ was the crudest form, resting on the principle that men should subjugate women because male dominance is natural, necessary, and rooted in love. âWoman superiorâ held that female power resided in womenâs lofty moral sensibility and sexual desirabilityânot to be confused with their sexual desire. Womenâs authority was innate yet limited, physical yet passive. (âSheâs ethereal,â Dworkin wrote, âshe floats.â) The last type, âseparate but equal,â emphasized that the sexes were destined for different spheres of existence, neither of which was better than the other. Women bearing and nurturing children was just as important as men providing for them financially or fighting wars to protect them. Dworkin theorized that some women embraced antifeminism, in one form or a combination, as a means of self-preservation in the face of male oppression. âFeminists, from a base of powerlessness, want to destroy that power,â she said. âRight-wing women, from a base of powerlessness, the same base, accommodate to that power because quite simply they see no way out from under.â Dworkin also argued that any disdain antifeminist women felt toward an âotherâ on the basis of race or another identity marker was really displaced rage they felt toward men. âThey are easily controlled and manipulated haters,â she said of these women. âHaving good reason to hate, but not the courage to rebel, women require symbols of danger that justify their fear.â5 Dworkinâs interpretation was compelling, but it contained two monolithic assumptions: that the patriarchy is an absolute negative for all women, and that women act largely on the basis of their womanhood. In fact, the overlapping lines of race, class, and culture complicate both ideas. What about women who benefitâor want to benefitâfrom existing structures of dominance? We risk stripping them of responsibility when we suggest that the harm they do is merely a way of coping with their own oppression, whether real or presumed. As Adrienne Rich wrote in Of Woman Born, âTheories of female power and female ascendancy must reckon fully with the ambiguities of our being, with the continuum of our consciousness, the potentialities for both creative and destructive energy in each of us.â6
I'm back from the dead (for these)! đ«¶
