So was the first victim of the Chernobyl disaster, Valery Khodemchuk.
On 21 November 2025, a Russian drone attack on Kiev killed Khodemchuk's widow Natalia.
Alexei Ananenko, one of the three "divers" of Chernobyl, also a Hero of Ukraine, lived in the same appartment block.

Chernobyl divers, Valeri Bespalov, Boris Baranov, Alexei Ananenko. Unexpectedly, they all survived. Two of them are still alive today.
In the HBO series "Chernobyl", the three "divers" (Olexi Ananenko, Valery Vespalov and Boris Baranov) were presented as volunteers to create a dramatic scene.
In reality, they weren't. They were employees acting on orders.
They survived after treatment in the hospital. Baranov died in 2005 from heart failure, the other two men still live.
Ananenko's apartment in Kiev was destroyed by a Russian bomb on Friday night but he's reportedly OK.
