Happy #Ampuversary Gracie! One year ago Gracie had her right front leg amputated due to soft tissue sarcoma. As you can see from her last four legged video she was in lots of pain. She came through the surgery like a star ⭐️ and was walking within 24 hours. Her surgery was so similar to Odie’s, going from chronic pain to acute pain to feeling so much better! Gracie changed in so many ways. She’s become more brave, more curious and physically stronger than she’s ever been! I want to thank everyone who support us through this tough time after a couple really tough months (losing Odie and Francy so close together). Thank you for donating to her surgery and after care, thank you for buying Odie shirts on @bonfire. We could not have done it without you. I also want to thank @tripawdscommunity, especially Rene who was so supportive and patient answering all my questions. So around this time frame, I was amputated ten years ago. So happy ampuversary to me. Still feels unreal. Still have complications. I wish I had a positive amp story like the others I see but I don't. But hey, I survived.

My 21st celebrated two weeks after the amputations. Me at rehabilitation for two weeks.hard to imagine this was all ten years ago. I'm still upset. Why can't I just get over it? Why can't I just accept it? The only thing I loved about me was my legs and feet and ironically I lost them. I beat myself up because I should've known something was wrong. I just thought it was all that partying and booze, my body just trying to catch up.

A Cancer Prayer
from Mary Beth Dever, whose son Sean celebrates his 7-year ampuversary (amputation anniversary) today
Dear God, we have prayed often for you to rid our child’s body of cancer and never let it come back. We have prayed often for you to spare his body the harsh effects of the treatments he must endure. We have prayed for mercy and strength. But we have not yet prayed for the things about cancer we would like to keep. Please let us keep the love that has been laid bare and that binds our family, our friends, and our community. Please let us keep our preference to be together. Please let us keep our appreciation for simple pleasures. Please let us keep our ability to not sweat the small stuff. Please let us keep our tolerance for each other’s mistakes. Please let us keep our focus on each other’s needs. Please let us keep our patient smiles responsive to normal childhood conflicts rather than the irritation that could so easily ensue. Please let us keep our tendency to treat others tenderly – knowing that we don’t know all the heartbreaks they have felt. Please let us keep the ease with which new acquaintances become good friends. Please let us keep our enhanced appreciation for nature. Please let us keep our motivation to live vigorously now rather than planning to live later. Please let us keep our calling to help others fight cancer with better weapons and smarter generals. Please let us keep our need to reciprocate the wonderfully kind favors we have received. Please let us keep the strength to press on when faced with other illnesses, deaths, and human tragedies. Please let us keep you at the center of our lives during good times, too. Amen.
