Writer Question: Physical Disabilities
So I'm wanting to write characters that have prosthetic limbs and/or use various mobility aids. My goal with writing is to offer at least some representation, in whatever way I can. I'm not sure how to go about asking so I thought to create a post, thinking it would be a great learning experience. If you are comfortable with answering, please feel free to interact.
What are some things that you wish able-bodied folks understood?
What are some challenges that you face? This can be season/temperature related, politics, demographics, what have you. Whatever comes to mind and feel free to be as in-depth as you want.
Tell me about anything about your experiences as an amputee/physically disabled person. Positive experiences, negative experiences, whatever it is that you are comfortable with sharing. What would you like to read about in a book? What would you like to have for representation?
