"you knew and you didn’t even warn me?”
"You knew and you didn’t even warn me?” David asks as he paces back and forth outside in an alleyway beside the cafe. "I thought we were done with the lying and the secrets."
"We are, David," Patrick promises. He reaches for David's arm, but David shrugs his touch away.
David grits his teeth. He motions in sharp movements. "What is this then? I trusted you!"
"You can still trust me."
David stops moving a few steps away from him. He folds his arms and turns his back toward Patrick. The dingy streetlights cast a dim glow across David's face, revealing his lips set in a straight line and furrowed eyebrows. After a few agonizing seconds, he finally speaks.
"I'm not sure I can, not after this."
Patrick ventures closer and closer until he's pressed right up against David's back. He wraps his arms around David's middle. David tenses up but doesn't make any other movements which Patrick counts as a win.
"I'm sorry I didn't tell you about the surprise party your family was planning," Patrick apologizes where his chin hooks across David's shoulder. "It won't ever happen again. Can you forgive me?"
David lets out a puff of air and rotates in Patrick's arms to face him. An amused smile dances across Patrick's lips. David rolls his eyes.
"I still can't believe you let them do this," David groans, leaning forward to drop his head against Patrick's shoulder.
Patrick pats his back. "Hang in there."
