Klassenrassismus

Die Arbeiterklasse gibt es seit Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts im Zuge der industriellen Revolution in Großbritannien. Sie bestand aus einer Bevölkerung bäuerlicher Herkunft, die geografisch in die Produktionszentren entwurzelt wurde und nicht über die Verwendung ihrer Zeit entscheiden konnte. Der Lohn dieser Arbeiterklasse reichte nur zum Überleben und zur Reproduktion. Diese Arbeiterklasse ist ein Opfer der Arbeitgeber, die sie ausgebeutet, von den Früchten ihrer Arbeit entfremdet und entmenschlicht haben. Sie wird beschuldigt, für den Verlust von Arbeitsplätzen verantwortlich zu sein: zu teuer, nicht effizient genug, nicht mobil genug etc.

Doch nur weil die Arbeiter leiden, weil sie Opfer sind, heißt das nicht, dass sie tugendhaft sind. Die Arbeiterklasse ist mitschuldig an der Entstehung von Klassenrassismus.

Die letzten großen Volksdemonstrationen fanden in den 1960er Jahren statt, mit Forderungen wie der, dass die Arbeiter an den Entscheidungen der Unternehmen beteiligt werden sollten oder dass die Arbeiter besser ausgebildet sein sollten. Der Soziologe Norbert Elias, beschreibt, dass die Arbeiterklasse ab Ende der 1960er Jahre weniger arbeiten und mehr verdienen wollte. Bei den Vereinbarungen von Grenelle in Frankreich erhielten die Arbeiter mehr Geld und mehr Ruhezeiten. Es ging nicht mehr darum, das System, die Funktionsweise der Gesellschaft zu ändern (an Entscheidungen teilzunehmen, die eigene Sozialversicherung zu verwalten usw.), wie zuvor. Sie bekamen einfach mehr.

Bis 1976 hatten die westlichen Länder Einwanderer oder kolonisierte Menschen ins Land geholt, weil es so viel Arbeit für die Arbeiter gab. Die Sozialdemokratie ist ein von Albert Thomas entwickeltes Konzept, bei dem es darum ging, den Bürgern durch nationale Eintracht mehr Wohlstand zu ermöglichen. Weniger Aggressionen gegeneinander und mehr Wohlstand für alle. 1976 wählten 72 Prozent der Arbeiter links. Mitte der 1970er Jahre begannen die Arbeiter, Häuser oder Autos zu besitzen. Die Arbeiter organisierten sich ohne Diskriminierung: Männer, Frauen, Junge, Alte, Einwanderer, Inländer. Es gab eine große, geeinte Arbeiterklasse.

Der Klassenrassismus entstand Ende der 1970er Jahre, als die Fabriken nach China und Mexiko verlegt wurden. Als die Arbeitsplätze zwischen 1976 und 1986 knapp wurden, wurde den Arbeitern klar, dass viele von ihnen arbeitslos werden würden. Die Sozialdemokratie würde ihnen nicht mehr helfen und ihren Wohlstand nicht mehr sichern können. Die Mehrheit der Arbeiter wandte sich einer Form des Klassenrassismus zu. Die Immigranten oder ehemals kolonisierten Menschen müssten ihre Arbeitsplätze verlieren und die männlichen, angeblich einheimischen WASPs müssten die verbleibenden Arbeitsplätze unter sich aufteilen. Sie sind nicht mehr solidarisch, sobald es weniger zu teilen gibt. In den 1990er Jahren bestand die Mehrheit der Wähler und der politischen Klasse der Linken nur noch aus Menschen, die in Städten lebten, eine höhere Bildung hatten und intellektuelle Arbeit leisteten. Diese sozialdemokratische Linke (wie Clinton, Biden, Hollande, Obama) entwickelte ihrerseits einen Rassismus gegenüber dieser Arbeiterklasse, die als beklagenswert galt, weil sie rassistisch sind, die Frauen zu Hause haben wollen, Geld wollen, ihre Interessen an erste Stelle setzen und rechts oder extrem rechts wählen. Im Jahr 2002 wählten nur noch 13 % der Arbeiter die Linke. Das Konzept der nationalen Präferenz hat die Arbeiterklasse überrollt. Die Eigentümer haben es geschafft, die Arbeiterklasse zu spalten. Sie bekämpfen sich gegenseitig, anstatt die wahren Schuldigen zu bekämpfen: die Eigentümer.

Albert Thomas hatte die Internationale Arbeitsorganisation (IAO) in den Goldenen Zwanzigern gegründet, um die nationale Eintracht zu fördern: mehr für alle, Hand in Hand. Er trat 1929 als Leiter der Organisation zurück und war enttäuscht, weil die Arbeiterklasse während der Wirtschaftskrise von 1929 für sich selbst eintrat und Polen, Juden, Bolschewiken usw. ablehnte. Wenn die Wirtschaftslage schlecht ist und man nicht vorschlägt, das System zu ändern, sind die Arbeiter nicht mehr solidarisch. Albert Thomas war Reformist: Er wollte das System ändern. Er wurde als Sozialverräter bezeichnet, weil er gegen den Ansatz der revolutionären Linken war, die die Bourgeoisie angreifen wollte. Albert Thomas hielt dies für unnötig, da er behauptete, dass das System sich selbst reproduzieren und weitere Bourgeois schaffen würde. Die Reichsten anzugreifen, ändert nichts. Genau das wird in George Orwells „ Animal Farm “ beschrieben. Die Französische Revolution schlug den Aristokraten den Kopf ab und Frankreich wurde von 500 bürgerlichen Familien regiert, anstatt von den 500 aristokratischen Familien vor der Revolution. Raphäel Glucksmann wurde angegriffen, weil er annahm, ein Reformist zu sein. Marine Tondelier ist ebenfalls Reformistin.

Norbert Elias erklärt in seinem Buch „ Logik der Ausgrenzung “ (1965), dass die Forderungen und Kämpfe der Linken unbedingt gesellschaftliche Veränderungen in den Vordergrund stellen müssen, um den Klassenrassismus, der so viel Schaden anrichtet, zu verhindern: mehr Demokratie, mehr Genossenschaften, Grundeinkommen, eigene Sozialversicherung etc. Lohnerhöhungen, Mietsenkungen oder Arbeitszeitverkürzungen führen nur zu einer Verstärkung des Klassenrassismus. Elias erwähnt auch den Rassismus von Neuankömmlingen, die die nachfolgenden Neuankömmlinge nicht wollen. Der Letzte schließt die Tür. Viele Afrikaner in Frankreich, viele Pakistaner in Großbritannien zum Beispiel sind gegen Einwanderung und wählen rechts.

Was der ersten Welle des Klassenrassismus ein Ende setzte, war der Zweite Weltkrieg. Wenn zum Beispiel der Wohlstand Chinas gefährdet wäre, China, das vor 50 Jahren eine Hungersnot erlebt hat, wäre das ein Fall für den Krieg. Wenn Trump chinesische Produkte nicht mehr importieren wollte, wäre das ein casus belli. Um nicht wieder in das gleiche Drama zu geraten, muss die Linke wieder für gesellschaftliche Veränderungen eintreten und nicht für quantitative Forderungen (Senkung des Rentenalters, Erhöhung des Mindestlohns usw.).

Klassen gibt es immer noch. Manche leben von der Arbeit anderer. Manche besitzen etwas. Manche arbeiten.

Auf globaler Ebene müssen die Führer der Linken die Spielregeln ändern und nicht nur die Brosamen erhöhen, die den Arbeitnehmern angeboten werden. Sie müssen dafür eintreten, dass alle Menschen gleich und solidarisch sind, indem sie den Wohlstand teilen und die Umwelt schützen. Die Linke muss Lust machen und nicht nur ein Bollwerk gegen die Rechte sein.

Ein Beispiel für Klassenrassismus ereignete sich in der Woche vor den US-Präsidentschaftswahlen 2024. Das Trump-Lager bezeichnete die Puerto-Ricaner als Müll. Bereits am nächsten Tag bezeichnete Joe Biden Trump-Wähler als Müll. Dies muss aufhören.

Kamala Harris wirbt nur mit Allgemeinplätzen oder Quantitäten: höhere Löhne, höhere Steuersätze, niedrigere Mieten usw. Die meisten von uns haben keine Lust, sich zu engagieren. Wer sie nicht wählt und Trump mit Putins Stiefeln gewinnen lässt, sorgt dafür, dass die Ideen von Kooperation, Demokratie und sozialer Gerechtigkeit nie verwirklicht werden.

Die Rechte wird für einige Arbeiter handeln, nicht für alle. Wenn Trump gewählt wird, wird es einigen von ihnen besser gehen: Sie werden ihren Arbeitsplatz behalten, eine Gehaltserhöhung bekommen usw., aber das ist nicht der Fall. Das ist gegen das allgemeine Interesse, vor allem auf globaler Ebene, und gegen die Demokratie. Trump verstärkt den Klassenrassismus, was zu Konflikten innerhalb der USA, aber auch mit anderen Ländern führen kann. Er spielt die einen gegen die anderen aus. Die Tatsache, dass die Menschen nicht die gleichen Rechte haben, führt zu Konflikten. Donald Trump zeigt sich auf der Bühne mit Elon Musk, und er greift die Puerto-Ricaner an, anstatt die Ultrareichen zu attackieren, die ihr Geld mit der Ausbeutung von Arbeitern verdienen. Während der letzten Präsidentschaft hatte er einen Teil der Republikaner und die gesamten Demokraten gegen sich. Innerhalb von vier Jahren hat er die Konkurrenz in seiner Partei ausgeschaltet. Wenn er gewählt würde, hätte er mehr Macht als in seiner letzten Amtszeit. Er will einen Teil der Bevölkerung begünstigen: ungebildete weiße christliche Männer. Er erklärt, dass die Probleme aus dem Iran, aus China oder aus Europa kommen, von Latinos und Linken. Es würde Chaos herrschen, alle seien gegeneinander aufgehetzt. Die Folgen seien zweifach: die Gefahr eines Krieges und das Fehlen gemeinsamer Maßnahmen, insbesondere in Bezug auf die Umwelt.

Javier Milei in Argentinien machte seinen Wahlkampf, indem er weiße Männer mit der Aussage verführte, er werde Frauen, Schwarze und Faulenzer ausschließen. Deshalb muss die Linke die Situation aller mit mehr Demokratie, Gleichheit und Zusammenarbeit verbessern. Die Demokratie muss verteidigt werden, indem das Referendum durch Volksinitiative gefordert wird.

Racismo clasista

La clase obrera existe desde mediados del siglo XVIII, con la revolución industrial en el Reino Unido. Consistía en una población de origen campesino desarraigada geográficamente a los centros de producción y que no decidía cómo emplear su tiempo. Los salarios de esta clase trabajadora sólo les permitían sobrevivir y reproducirse. Esta clase de trabajadores es víctima de los propietarios que los explotaron, los alienaron de los frutos de su trabajo y los deshumanizaron. Se les culpa de la pérdida de puestos de trabajo: son demasiado caros, no son lo suficientemente eficientes, no se mueven lo suficiente, etc.

En los locos años veinte, Albert Thomas fundó la Organización Internacional del Trabajo (OIT) en pro de la armonía nacional: más para todos, mano a mano. Dejó la dirección de la organización en 1929, desilusionado porque, durante la crisis económica de 1929, la clase obrera había optado por el sálvese quien pueda y rechazado a los polacos, los judíos, los bolcheviques, etcétera. Muchos africanos en Francia, muchos pakistaníes en el Reino Unido, por ejemplo, se oponen a la inmigración y votan a la derecha.

Lo que puso fin a la primera oleada de racismo de clase fue la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Por ejemplo, si estuviera en peligro la prosperidad de China, un país que sufrió hambrunas hace 50 años, sería un caso de guerra. Si Trump ya no quisiera importar productos chinos, sería un casus belli. Para evitar volver a caer en el mismo tipo de drama, la izquierda necesita redefinir el cambio social y no las demandas cuantitativas (reducir la edad de jubilación, aumentar el salario mínimo, etc.).

Las clases siguen existiendo. Algunos viven del trabajo de otros. Algunos son propietarios. Algunos trabajan.

A escala mundial, los líderes de izquierdas deben cambiar las reglas del juego, no limitarse a aumentar las migajas ofrecidas a los trabajadores. Deben defender la igualdad y la solidaridad, compartir la prosperidad y proteger el medio ambiente. La izquierda debe inspirar, no limitarse a ser un impedimento contra la derecha.

Un ejemplo de racismo de clase tuvo lugar la semana anterior a las elecciones presidenciales estadounidenses de 2024. El campo de Trump llamó basura a los puertorriqueños. Al día siguiente, Joe Biden llamó basura a los votantes de Trump. Esto tiene que acabar.

Kamala Harris solo hace campaña sobre generalidades o cantidades: subir los salarios, cambiar los tipos impositivos, bajar los alquileres, etc. Pero no votar por ella y dejar que gane Trump, con las botas de Putin sobre el terreno, es asegurarse de que las ideas de cooperación, democracia y justicia social nunca verán la luz del día.

De hecho, Trump está reforzando el racismo de clase, lo que podría provocar conflictos internos en Estados Unidos, pero también con otros países. Está enfrentando a unas personas contra otras. Donald Trump está en el escenario con Elon Musk, y está atacando a los puertorriqueños en lugar de a los ultrarricos que hacen su dinero explotando a los trabajadores. Las consecuencias son dos: el riesgo de guerra y la falta de acción conjunta, sobre todo en materia de medio ambiente.

Putin ataca a los homosexuales, a la gente de color y a los musulmanes. Victor Orban ataca a las mujeres, a los negros, a los vagos, a los no cristianos, a los homosexuales, a los izquierdistas.

Por eso la izquierda debe mejorar la situación de todos con más democracia, igualdad y cooperación. La democracia debe defenderse exigiendo un referéndum de iniciativa popular.

Working class racism

The working class has existed since the mid-18th century, with the Industrial Revolution in the UK. It consisted of a population of peasant origin uprooted geographically to the centers of production, with no control over the use of their time. The wages of this working class only enabled them to survive and reproduce. This class of workers is the victim of owners who have exploited them, alienated them from the fruits of their labor and dehumanized them. They are blamed for the loss of jobs: too expensive, not efficient enough, not mobile enough, and so on.

However, just because workers suffer, just because they are victims, doesn’t mean they are virtuous. The working class is complicit in the creation of class racism.

The last major popular protests took place in the 1960s, with demands for workers to participate in company decision-making and for workers to be better educated. Sociologist Norbert Elias describes how, by the end of the 1960s, the working class wanted to work less and earn more. During the Grenelle Agreements in France, workers were given more money and more time off. It was no longer a question of changing the system, the way society worked (participating in decision-making, managing one’s own social security, etc.) as before. They just got more.

Until 1976, Western countries had brought in immigrants or colonized people since there was so much work for the workers. Social democracy was a concept developed by Albert Thomas, which consisted in enabling citizens to achieve greater prosperity through national harmony. Less aggression towards each other and more wealth for everyone. In 1976, 72% of workers voted left-wing. By the mid-1970s, workers were beginning to own homes and cars. Workers organized themselves without discrimination: men, women, young, old, immigrants, nationals. There was a large, united working class.

Class racism emerged at the end of the 70s, with the relocation of factories to China and Mexico. When employment became scarce, from 1976 to 1986, workers realized that many would find themselves out of work. Social democracy could do nothing for them, could no longer safeguard their prosperity. The majority of workers turned to a form of class racism. It would be up to immigrants or formerly colonized people to lose their jobs, and so-called native-born males, the WASPs, to share the remaining jobs. There’s no solidarity when there’s less to share. By the 1990s, the majority of left-wing voters and politicians were urban dwellers, college-educated and doing intellectual work. This social-democratic left (like Clinton, Biden, Hollande, Obama) in turn developed a racism towards this working class considered deplorable because they are racist, want women at home, want money, put their self-interest first and vote right or far-right. In 2002, only 13% of working-class people voted for the left. The notion of national preference has invaded the working class. The owners have succeeded in dividing the working class. They fight each other instead of taking on the real culprits: the owners.

Albert Thomas, in the Roaring Twenties, founded the International Labor Organization (ILO) for national concord: more for everyone, hand in hand. He left the head of the organization in 1929, disillusioned because, during the economic crisis of 1929, the working class had opted for every man for himself, rejecting the Poles, the Jews, the Bolsheviks and so on. As soon as the economic situation is bad, if there are no proposals to change the system, the workers are no longer united.

Norbert Elias, in his 1965 book Logique de l’exclusion (The Logic of Exclusion ), explains that if we want to avoid the class racism that does so much harm, the demands and struggles of the left must absolutely prioritize changes in society: more democracy, more cooperatives, introducing basic incomes, managing one’s own social security, etc. Raising wages, reducing rents or cutting working hours only reinforces class racism. Elias also mentions the racism of newcomers who don’t want the new arrivals who follow. The latter closes the door. Many Africans in France, many Pakistanis in the UK for example, are opposed to immigration and vote right-wing.

What put an end to the first wave of class racism was the Second World War. For example, if China’s prosperity were in danger, a China that experienced famine 50 years ago, it would be a case of war. If Trump no longer wanted to import Chinese products, it would be a casus belli. To avoid falling back into the same kind of drama, the left needs to redefend societal change rather than quantitative demands (lowering the retirement age, raising the minimum wage, etc.)

Classes still exist. Some live off the work of others. Some own. Some work.

On a global scale, left-wing leaders must change the rules of the game, not just increase the crumbs offered to workers. They need to stand up for equality and solidarity, sharing prosperity and protecting the environment. The left has to inspire, not just be a barrier to the right.

An example of class racism took place the week before the 2024 US presidential elections. Trump’s camp called Puerto Ricans garbage. The very next day, Joe Biden called Trump voters garbage. This must stop.

Kamala Harris only campaigns on generalities or quantities: raise wages, change tax rates, lower rents, etc. But not to vote for her and let Trump win, in Putin’s footsteps, is to ensure that ideas of cooperation, democracy and social justice will never come to life.

The right will act for some workers, not all. If Trump is elected, it’s going to be better for some of them: keeping their jobs, getting a pay rise, etc. This will be against the general interest, especially on a global scale, and against democracy. Indeed, Trump is reinforcing class racism, which could lead to internal conflicts in the United States, but also with other countries. He’s turning people against each other. The fact that people don’t have the same rights leads to conflict. Donald Trump gets on stage with Elon Musk, and he goes after Puerto Ricans instead of the ultra-rich who make their money by exploiting workers. During the last presidency, he had part of the Republicans and all the Democrats opposing him. In four years, he eliminated the competition in his party. If elected, he would have more power than in his last term. He wants to favor one segment of the population: uneducated white Christian men. He explains that the problems come from Iran, China or Europe, from Latinos and leftists. It would be chaos, with everyone divided against each other. The consequences are twofold: the risk of war and the lack of joint action, especially with regard to the environment.

Javier Milei in Argentina campaigned by appealing to white men, saying he would exclude women, blacks and idlers. Putin attacks homosexuals, people of color and Muslims. Victor Orban attacks women, blacks, idlers, non-Christians, homosexuals and leftists.

That’s why the left must improve the situation for all, with greater democracy, equality and cooperation. Democracy must be defended by requesting a popular initiative referendum.
