When I was in the wonderful city of Seoul this past week I ended up blind buying a mix of Korean Drama OST's as well as some movies I have never heard of and what a wonderful surprise when I popped in Jo Yeong-Wook's "Kundo: Age of the Rampant"! I only knew of the composer's popular and great work for Oldboy so I was rather excited to hear his take on an "Asian Spaghetti Western". The score is filled with wonderful homages to Morricone and you could clearly hear Yeong-Wook having fun throughout. The awesome main theme (which some will remember from its use in "Django") is Riz Ortolani's "I Giorni dell'Ira" and is a perfect set up for the rest of the album. I am a sucker for this type of score and thankfully Yeong-Wook has only built on my love for this genre. Highlights include "Island Titles", "The Last Duel", "A New World", and "Ending".
