Oh I didn’t tell you guys! I found not one, but TWO hag stones while I was at the beach this weekend.
For literal years I’ve been telling myself I would find one when it was time, and when I found one I’d start my spiritual journey in earnest.
So I guess this is a new step for me 💕
Also, I put it on some cotton string and it makes a wonderful lucky necklace. Literally the perfect size for a pendant.
As if that’s not cool enough, there’s a fucking fossil imprint on it too. I used to always find those around my house as a kid.
Yeah, this rock was meant for me and nothing can convince me otherwise. I’ve never seen a clearer sign.
Figured I'd show my 'Hagstone'. Not sure how I plan on incorporating it into the Ranger kit, perhaps tied to belt. In any case, hagstones are stones with naturally formed holes through them created by moving water, often from rivers. For thousands of years, originating from Druidism and Welsh Folklore, these stones are believed to have magical properties and ward off witches, disease caused by the evil eye, and prevented hag-riding (sleep paralysis), and were often carried in pockets or worn around the neck. Supposedly, only good things can pass through the hole, with "good fortune and well wishes able to pass through, but bad luck and evil being 'too big' to pass through and become stuck. For thousands of years, a belief was that magic could not work on moving water, and since the hole in the stone was created by moving water, it acted as a shield against spells and the like. Another property is that according to legend, if you close one eye and peer through a hagstone's hole, you are able to see creatures you would not normally be able to see, such as fey, or glimpse into the fey world. They're often worn around the neck, and hung near your bed for protection against nightmares and evil magic. Protecting not only against evil and magics, they have also been called adder stones because their inherit magic supposedly would "protect the wearer from the effects of snake bites." Seemed like a unique and fitting piece for a ranger kit.
It is hagstone season here at Poisoner’s Apothecary! Around this time of year I bring out some of my seasonal items and these are one of them. These hagstones were collected in Ireland and come on a rosary style necklace. #hagstone #witchstone #adderstone #traditionalwitchcraft #witchcraft #fairystone #odinstone #folkmagic #holeystone https://www.instagram.com/p/CTsrHKtr-qJ/?utm_medium=tumblr

Passing through rituals involving holes in stones and trees are widespread in Europe and beyond and are related to rituals that involve looking through a hole to see spirits. In my latest video we look at the passing through rituals associated with megalithic structures in Britain and Ireland, such as the Men-an-Tol in Cornwall through which I passed my own son. I also discuss the arboreal passing through rituals associated with oak and ash trees all over Europe, known as träddragning in Nordic countries. We also look at the related customs of looking through holes among the Sami and the Welsh, the Odinic ritual of looking through an arm akimbo as described in the Viking saga of King Hrólfr Kraki, and at the hagstone or adderstone tradition from Britain and the associated magical practices. Several artists contributed animations to the new video including @efabm whose holed stone images is included here. #menantol #holedstone #passingthrough #cornwall #folklore #megalithic #neolithic #indoeuropean #folkmedicine #magic #hagstone #adderstone #cornishfolklore #orkney #odinstone #Odin #träddragning #holedtree #holytree #holyholes (at Mên-an-Tol) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQN3hoat5ny/?utm_medium=tumblr
I found an adderstone!
I found this while I was skipping rocks on a date, and remembered something about a stone with a naturally made hole having some kind of special meaning. So I decided to keep it close.
As a baby witch, I was so excited to know that these stones are powerful signs and tools that can be used in practice. Especially when it comes to healing and connecting with spirit and fae realms. It can be used to ward off negative energies and is a sign of a protector.
Every time I look through the hole I feel so fuzzy and elated, I can’t wait to see where this stone helps me!
Be sure to look for adderstones around water!
