King Alfred the great was an early Anglo Saxon king, who fought against pagan Danes and united disparate Germanic tribes to help form England.

at the unveiling of the Winchester statue in 1901, Prime minister Roseberry said

The Victorian novelist and historian, Sir Walter Besant, described King Alfred as,
âThe typical man of our race - call him Anglo Saxon, call him American, call him Australian - the typical man of our race at his best and noblest.â
In 1990 a statue of Alfred was unveiled at Alfred University, New York USA. But many of the students and faculty opposed this, saying he represented the image of the âDead White European Male".

Given the name of the uni, it seems like a reasonable choice to me. Or they could pull it down and put up a statue of Malcolm X in a tutu.

It took months working with a designer to reconstruct this 6x god head Saxon motif for the back of this heavy duty cotton shirt.
The design was taken from a damaged saucer-brooch found in a Saxon grave in Fairford in the Cotswolds, England. This may represent the many aspects of the god, Woden. The front of the shirt also bears a small zoomorphic triskele over the heart - a similar triskele was found in Fairford but this design is based on one from Sweden. The gods continued to inspire Europeans throughout history. In the Romantic nationalist period this manifested in the Wagnerian ideal of the Gesamtkunstwerk, which was an ideal aspired to by the Swiss artist Johann Michael Bossard (1874â1950).
Near Hamburg, he built his great KunststĂ€tte âart-steadâ which boasts the grand Edda Hall. It is filled with expressionist depictions of the Germanic gods and sculptures inspired by Norse mythology. All styles and mediums of art are jumbled together in an eclectic and overwhelming Total Art experience which is as bewildering and surreal as our experience of the gods themselves.
This scene was filmed in Germany to be included in Roots of the Saxons, but was cut as it was too much of a digression in a documentary that had already exceeded its intended run time. It was a shame to cut it tbh.

Two wooden shields dating to the 3rd century CE, found at Thorsberg Moor in northern Germany. The moor is a peat bog in which the anaerobic environment has allowed articles like clothing and these shields â likely from Iron Age Germanic burials â to survive to the present day.

Late Roman Cavalry Helmet, Niederbieber III Type
Found in the Thorsberg moor, Germany. The decoration consists of a band of hair curls across the forehead, which is connected by a narrow band to a plate on the neck guard by way of a plate with a rosette on the top center of the helmet. On the neck guard plate there is a wreath and a thunderbolt. From the top center of this plate two snakes crawl along the sides up to the top of the helmet.
