Dmdd is a recently added disorder, only existing in the dsm5. It is characterized by persistent feelings of anger and annoyance seeming to never stop and temper outbursts inappropriate to the situation and the age of the person with dmdd. People with dmdd often experience severe problems at school and home. Dmdd is a similar diagnosis to odd (oppositional defiance disorder) so dmdd can include nearly all the traits of odd. If a child meets all the criteria for odd and dmdd they will be diagnosed with dmdd instead of odd. People with dmdd are typically defiant and have trouble listening when reprimanded. Dmdd symptoms must persist for at least 12 months to be diagnosed. Dmdd and odd cannot be diagnosed at once, Dmdd and bpd cannot be diagnosed at once due to dmdd being added to avoid diagnosing bpd in minors. The difference between normal temper and dmdd temper is the irritability level compared to the situation. People with dmdd typically can have large tantrums over things as simple as you cooking something they dislike for dinner while people without dmdd will just get a bit frustrated. These tantrums must happen at least three times a week. Dmdd is treated using antipsychotics and mood stabilizers. Children with dmdd are likely to also have hyperactive adhd, conduct disorder, depression, gad, and later in life bpd.
