The wavy stems of Salix matsudana ‘Tortuosa’ (dragon’s claw willow, Peking willow, wiggerly willow) make a dramatic arrangement and are surrounded by a planting of Acorus gramineus 'Variegatus' (variegated slender sweet flag).

The rich red-purple flowers of Helleborus 'Abcrd02' (hellebore Anna's Red) form some early spring drama surrounded by Acorus gramineus 'Ōgon'. This hellebore was named after plantswoman Anna Pavord and bred by Rodney Davey, it is considered the first red flowering hellebore with marbled foliage.

This winter container is edged with the yellow leaved, compact semi-evergreen or evergreen perennial Acorus gramineus 'Ōgon' (slender sweet flag) and the central feature is cut stems of Salix × sepulcralis 'Erythroflexuosa' (contorted willow, twisted willow). This small tree or large shrub has twisted orange-yellow branches especially of the young shoots.

This distinctive container has an arrangement of cut Corylus avellana ‘Contorta’ (contorted hazel) stems tied to a plant support usually used for herbaceous perennials. The surrounding plants are the grass-like yellow leaved Acorus gramineus 'Ogon' (slender sweet flag) and the contrasting rounded foliage of Bergenia 'Eroica' (elephant's ears) which turns red in the winter.
