21 Days for Happiness- Day 1: Alright my pretties, it's been awhile since I've done this practice actively so it's time for a refresher. I stole and adapted this practice shamelessly from two sources, a friend and Acceptance Commitment Therapy.
For those of you who think this way, because I am choosing to BE grateful, I have gratitude in my life.
The idea is that neuronal rewiring takes 21 days to make it stick. That's how long it takes to form a habit, change a pattern etc. The practice is SUPER simple:
Write down one gratitude every day.
Gratitudes are things you are grateful for phrased in the positive, as opposed to complaints using the language of gratitude. Example of a gratitude: I'm grateful for a sunny day. Example of a complaint: I'm grateful it's not raining.
Today I'm grateful for overhearing the intense bird conversations when I went on my walk early this morning. I actually got to see one of them in song as it was sitting on a wire out in the open. Their conversations are fascinating to listen to. I am grateful also to myself for going on said walk, for the quite in the park and the swing I got to use for the cardio portion of my exercise.
PS: it's not cheating to write more than one. Anyone care to join me for the next 21 days? No worries about jumping in at any time, just put your day number at the front of your post for to be accountable to yourself. Also, there's no shame on the gratitude wagon. If you miss a day, simply number your next post accordingly.
Hint: surrender the outcome. Do it to be grateful and no other reason. See what happens.
