Accept Differences; Grow Together
āPerseverance of oneās own culture does not require contempt or disrespect for other cultures.ā The emerging āAmerica Firstā political ideology is in direct conflict with the Constitutionally promised protections from persecution and/or discrimination of faith, race, religion, or nationality. The recent Executive Orders issued by President Trump are offensive to the integrity of American democracy, and are not only threats to the civil but also human rights of many. Contrary to Trumpās ego-inflated narrative, patriotism will not be a cure for Americaās divide if it entails prejudice and/or discrimination of any people; America will not be cured of our differences unless we learn to recognize, understand, accept, and ultimately respect the social and cultural differences we share as Americans, and as all people. Only when Americaās governing democratic system represents all members of society and works collectively with other nations to best serve all citizens will patriotism bond us as American people. Freedom and justice are not a loose terms. We cannot pick and choose who they are Ā applicable to. After we see this notion executed in American law and governance we will have reason to be patriotic. @marissawritespoliticsĀ
