“Levi, can you feel it?”

“Can I feel it? The brat hasn’t stopped kicking.” He chuckled.

Mikasa hummed, beaming with her eyes shut from the pressure of laughter and the brightness of the sun pouring in. “What do you think- boy or girl?”

“Who’s to say?”

“Which would you want? Given the choice, that is?” She prodded.

“Hm.” Mikasa felt Levi adjust himself, now closer to her face, with one hand on her swollen belly and the other playing in her hair near the bed’s frame. “I suppose it doesn’t matter.”

“It doesn’t?” She asked skeptically.

“No. Whatever kind of child you produce, I’m sure I’ll love it.”

Mikasa smirked deviously. “What if it’s a filthy, unhygienic, unsanitary -”

“Wouldn’t matter-” She sat her neck up slightly to give him a doubtful look. “-we would refine him.”

“Oh? What if she’s a reckless, rebellious child?”

“You’re describing yourself, Ackerman.”

Mikasa giggled. She let the moment pass before saying, for most likely the hundredth time that morning, “I can’t wait.”

After a long period of silence, she opened her eyes, taken aback at the sheer expression of happiness and calm on her once-captain’s face staring into her own. 

He leaned in closer, her lips parting instinctively as a shiver ran its way through her spine. ‘Damn hormones,’ she thought. Grinning against her mouth, Levi spoke to his breathless lover.

“..Mikasa.”

Her thin brows furrowed slightly. “Levi?”

His smiled faded, and he kissed her, sweetly, deeply, releasing her with reluctance and longing, then sinking his head into the crook of her shoulder, mumbling.

“Nothing. I can’t think of anything. I just want to lay here forever.”
