Do whatever feels right. I don't want you to feel just annoyed at what you're doing. You should put effort into the things you really enjoy, and if you don't enjoy this than don't work on it. [Or at least not to the point of pure frustration]

It’s not that I don’t enjoy The Sims; I like the game and I do like sharing my game play, but I feel like it’s holding me back from writing the way I want to.

Do what feels right. That is exactly why I go through long periods where I don't post; I love the sims and I love telling stories, but they don't always go well together. Honestly, I'd read your stories either way, sims or not :) I've been meaning to do just that, since I know you have some works on your other blog.

Thanks.  I know what you mean.  Sometimes it feels like the Sims and unfettered creative writing are like the proverbial square peg and round hole.  I really do enjoy TS4 despite its shortcomings, but the sims games honestly aren’t the best storytelling platforms.  I would much rather create my worlds and the people in them purely from my own imagination, and make the ‘pictures’ with good characterization and good descriptions of scene and setting. 

It’s a great compliment to me that you want to read my writing whether it’s Sims related or not.  If you want to read stuff that I’ve posted on Tumblr, here is my story index. Hopefully all the links work, but I can’t guarantee anything since I went on a huge deleting spree back in the spring. I may have gotten rid of some stuff with my original photography in it (because the majority of the BJD community is a gang of fucked up little shitboxes who treat truly creative people like absolute shit, and a few of them also apparently have no moral filters to stop them from stealing other people’s intellectual property).  Fair warning: you will get to meet the “real” Zach and Aubrey if you venture into my story index, and you may not recognize them because they’re really nothing like sim!Zach and sim!Aubrey at all.  In fact, they’re entirely different characters in my head, and they basically only share names and superficial physical appearances.

I will say that I don't find your sims stories boring. I hear you on the frustration of being forced to just narrate game play. I've enjoyed the times we've 'talked' I don't want you to think I'm wishing you away. But you don't owe the sims community anything... Do what makes you happy!

Thanks for that.  I guess they just seem like they’d be boring because I feel like they lack depth. It’s really hard to do decent scene/setting and characterization and whatnot in the “script” format, and when you’re confined to short chunks of 3-6 sentences for quick and easy readability it doesn’t leave much room for expansion of character arcs and storylines.  It doesn’t feel like writing to me at all, and I think that’s the thing I find most frustrating.  It really is just narration of game play.

I never once got the impression that you’re wishing me away. Don’t worry about that!  I’ve enjoyed chatting with you as well, and I hope we can continue to do that.  Honestly, I have no idea if I’m going to continue storytelling in simblr or not, but I’ll still be around to post my builds, read other people’s stuff and share CC finds.

Do whatever is best for you. I enjoy your story, but I get what you're saying about how game play is restrictive, and it's a lot of work to be constantly posing

Thanks! Yeah...even without using poses, it’s a bit of a chore.  I really hate the script format that seems to be the going thing in simblr, and it kills me to “write” a story that’s entirely dialogue.  That really doesn’t feel like writing to me at all....

I haven't gotten through all your stories yet, only your old men. However, I love your writing. And I get that the game makes it difficult, I spend so long getting pictures just to fit one post. Do what feels best for you! :)
