Pais Sereine (battle ready sister of the ceremonial Pais Sereine) textured in Blender.
I will be re-doing the guard and blade placeholders altogether, but I wanted to test out the textures on the draft first. Once they are re-done I will add the inscriptions, and finish them up once and for all.
Sereine, which is the battle sister, is made out of Damascus steel on the [type XII] blade (as described in chapter 19: Castling), making it a hybrid sword of sorts. This steel was highly valued, you can almost think of it like Valyrian steel. Baldwin's curiosity and bellicose spirit leads him to commission it.
Pais Sereine--ceremonial but also sturdy & battle ready js in case--has a white-gold wire/cord wrapped grip (like Baldwin's sword in the movie), instead of this brown leather wrap, and beset gems on the rims n pommel. The leather grip on the battle sister is for comfort, and the brown color is kept because a light color would be impractical considering dirt and sweat and blood. I am still debating whether to also give her Damascus steel, but for the moment, she does not have it (I imagine a cleaner look on her, not that damascus looks dirty--it is beautiful--but a little chaotic).
Explanation: both swords are sisters, and they share the same name, however, to differentiate them, Baldwin calls the battle one just "Sereine" without the Pais. The name means Serene Peace in Old French. His type Xa-XI etc. heirlooms (father, predecessors, ancestors...) remain unnamed, I have too many ideas and options for them😭.
Bausant, his sword for The King's Lazarette, has a different guard, more curved and does not sport Damascus steel, as it is a Templar-inspired sword, and should be European without influences like Damascus steel. Being a hybrid would not suit it. The name is literally the battle gonfanon of the templars, black and white with their red pattee cross. Therefore, it has a black and white grip, and red gems. The inscription reads "Fiat Pax In Virtute Tua" (let there be peace in Your strength) from the Da Pacem Domine chant. This was orignally one of the inscription options for Pais Sereine, because of the peace theme.
As I have said before, I will make a full 3D recreation of the movie one(s) too, adding details like the flowers on the guard, but ofc, making it period-accurate, starting with the grip and blade. Ik I have been talking about this for so long, but I have so much going on that's why I take ages finishing everything :3
I am open to receiving 3D sword commissions once I have more and better established templates! For the moment, I can draft you drawn versions, or even attempt a photobash. Prices range widely, of course.
(the pommel does not match the other golden textures, as I am still testing)
