last night I had an idea for a Newsies au and I wanted to know what other people thought about it/ do I write the fic
so basically the strike was obviously betrayed and nobody knows who did it (it was Jack) but Jack blames Davey for it because the Newsies mostly trust Jack and not really Davey, so basically Davey gets run out of the strike and doesn't really go back home (Les believes Dave was the traitor too) and gets found by no other than... Joseph Pulitzer
okay so then what I was thinking is that Pulitzer was having some conflict with one of his kids (probably Katherine but I might add OC children/ characters with the same names as his real kids) and he also just sees Davey in himself/ wants a power dynamic over Jack, so he takes Davey in and treats him like he was Pulitzer's bio son (calling him Joey Jr, promising a better life) which is kind of a fight bc Davey is morally opposed to Pulitzer and his mistreatment of the Newsies but also Pulitzer has the 1899 equivalent of the Penguin leather bound classics collection/ literally everything he's never had so he does end up staying but he might have a plan to get revenge on Pulitzer
then the plot ends up maybe a year later where Jack decides to take up a job as a political cartoonist and bumps into Davey who's going by Joseph Jr, which is the most resentful rivals to lovers (I'll prolly add Javey but let's see) dynamic of all time
Then there's a big climax I'll come back to that later
I want to add a lot of Les and Davey moments bc I do want to see their brother dynamic. I think Les did idolize Davey for a long time but did chose Jack over him and Davey really has to rebuild his trust with Les post-strike. I do headcanon Davey as autustic and I really want to see how that works out with the Jacobs brothers.
I also want to add ocs, especially girl OCs and OCs of color because those types of characters made sense in a Newsies setting and Disney left them out for... no reason
but yeah that's all the brainstorming I have so far, tell me if I should write this send an ask or something if you have ideas
