TDLR: I have the headcanon (now canon to the au) that Big E himself has a deep hatred for religion due to his father basically being crucified because he was the basis for Jesus.

An I would like to add to this, Emp's father died when he was a child, so he's was helping his father like a good son without realizing what he was doing. So when execution happened for his father, he realized far too late what he had done. An little emps would try to revive his father, but he father kept telling him to move on, that this was not his fault. The emperor never let go of the event and trauma and had fueled him all this time.
