Oh, hmmmm. That’s a good question, I never really thought about it. I guess I figured it was a little before the Fatin/Shelby convo because otherwise she’d have brought it up earlier? But then again, why would she, and everyone had so many things going on and there were always other girls around. Probably most likely she started guessing earlier and then had it confirmed after they came back with the lychees?

Like, first, I feel EVERYONE was going ummmm? at Shelby having to be the one to give Toni the pill and what then ensued.

At that point, Fatin may have had an inkling, but if she did, she locked it down, probably thought she was just oversexualizing things, because it was after this that she called Shelby a bigot and Jesus freak. But then there was the public Leah accusation and that made everyone ease off on her, including Fatin. Which would open her to think about things through a different lens.

Fatin really did seem like the only one, aside from Dot and maybe Nora, to be free enough from her own thing to observe the others, and obviously the one most in tune with sexuality. So once the kiss happened, with the looks between Toni and Shelby, at some point she probably caught some of them. Just off the top of my head, there was this awkwardness:

No way Fatin wasn’t filing some of this away.

And then Toni’s blatantly nicer to Shelb, enough to, as you’ll remember, actually express concern to Fatin, which! It was a small thing but I wish there was some way for Fatin to slip that into her talk with Shelby, because how much would it have warmed her to know that Toni actually spent a lot of freaking time worried about her. We got actually so many shots of Toni watching Shelby with concern, it’s such delicious early romance mutual yearning for Shelby to then be like, doesn’t this mean anything to you?

And then of course they stayed away the whole night and came sauntering back with Shelby clearly trying to lie her way through the worst excuse ever and then shared this look
