And I love ya⌠and I love Katie, too. (Part 1.2)
Robert gets sick from all the alcohol he drank but heâs determined to give his best man speech. Jackâs all âyou ought to be ashamed of yourselfâ and âyouâre a disgraceâ. Itâs time for the speech and Robert breaks the glass. In the end, Robert conveys to Katie through his speech that he loves her (if heâd told her earlier, would there have been a wedding?). Itâs CLEAR Robertâs heart is breaking đ.

I hope you know what youâre doing. Andy wants YOU to speak. Youâre the only one that can tell it like it is. (Part 1.1)
Viv notices her balloons are all gone in the the hall đ then her and Bob comment to Robert about being proud of his âsuper siblingâ and heâll feel the same when he meets his MS. RIGHT (sorry, but itâs MR. RIGHT đ). Robert and Aaron sharing THE scene! Robert assures Danny his speech is ready. Paddy offers his two cents about his best man speech. Diane borrows Katieâs garter (weird scene). Robert has words with Daz that heâs there to cause trouble but heâs only there for Andy. Jack is not amused Robertâs basically drunk and heâs supposed to be making a speech!

Well, itâs tradition, innit? Best man sleeps with the bridesmaid. (Part 2.1)
Dianeâs thinking of her own upcoming wedding to Jack and the reason she âobtainedâ Katieâs garter. A broken-hearted Robert uses a very easy Donna and takes her to bed⌠where later Katie and Andy find them in bed. Yeah, Katie, you couldnât wait to get to the church to marry Andy while still blissed from being with Robert đ.

Before the beginningâŚ
The date was 11-Nov-2014 and with it came Robert and Aaron being both on screen for the first time in the same shot, Aaron just passing Robert. Soon enough, theyâd be making magic officially thanks to Ross stealing Robertâs Audi.
What makes their beginnings so special? Both of them eased into their characters first (Aaron first in August followed by Robert in October) allowing BOTH time for us to get to know them again INDIVIDUALLY (for Aaron it was just over two years but for Robert it was just under ten) before starting anything remotely romantic. We already KNEW their backstory/history because it was played out in front of our eyes especially Robertâs seeing him born through his teen years while we saw Aaronâs in parts. In essence, the characters had separate lives not one where the SOLE and ONLY purpose was to be tethered to the other (with no other reason or connections to be had).
Their link was through established families (the only time Iâm familiar with them sharing a scene was at Andy & Kahteeeâs first wedding) but that is beside the point. Technically they were a clean slate for each other (no bs twisted fabricated story that would force them to interact but be ignored completely no matter how wrong to move them forward).
We re-learned who they were before they said one word to each other. We were given a LEGITIMATE story for them to come into contact. We saw EACH BEAT of their story from their first meeting, how Aaron saw him as a weasel and Robert spilling right from the get go his need for his ânewâ family to respect him. We saw feelings change for BOTH of them ON SCREEN not told by second hand accounts by biased characters that did not mesh/reflect what was later seen.
Now, seven years later, beats are ignored completely, lacking chemistry or a purpose is not considered. Itâs literally all about plot with no beginning, middle or end. Just moments that go nowhere, scenarios repeated over and over, no explanations given going from point A straight to point J then point R and the viewers are to accept things based on the few (VERY few) things thrown in the plot. There is no development, it just is.
In the end, I am happy we had our lads start out seven years ago rather than now. Yes, the chemistry would still be out of this world (lightning in a bottle) but they would be handicapped by inferior writing based on material imagined by producers and storyliners unable to tell a proper and enticing story. So cheers for that!
