So 13th Age in Glorantha is out, and looking through the appendices I’m vaguely dissatisfied because when talking about the Rogue Class and how to convert it for Glorantha it said that Glorantha really didn’t do “Guild of Thieves” type characters. This sort of ignores the existence of Pavis and one of the minor gods therein, Lanbril, the first thief.

This may be intentional, because Lanbril’s origin story was that he was overlooked by everyone so got annoyed and started stealing from them.

While Eurmal may have been the first god to steal something, Lanbril was the first god to go “I am a Thief”, and so I’m working on a few talents for Lanbril’s cultists, who usually downplay their divine origin and call themselves the Thieves’ Guild.

Lanbril was easily overlooked. It’s part of what made him a good thief. And in turn, he protects his followers from the prying gaze of others. When you’re being actively searched for, whether by mundane methods or magical divination, the attempts automatically fail. 

Adventurer Feat: You can also protect 1 non-Lanbril ally per level, assuming they were involved in whatever crime has you being looked for in the first place.

Champion Feat: You know who was trying to find you.

Epic Feat: You learn the same things about them they were trying to find out about you.

The Right Tool for the Right Job (replaces Swashbuckler)

Lanbril Thieves aren’t flashy swashbucklers. Leave that to the masters of Luck and Death, or the Flynns of Panash. 

Instead, once per battle as a quick action(or non combat scene), the Lanbril Thief gets to explain exactly why, via flashback or other device, he happens to have exactly the right tool that would solve a current problem- maybe he has an alchemical flashbang to blind the sensitive eyes of cave trolls, maybe his grandfather’s time as a Lunar slave included designing this brand of clockwork lock, or whatever. They automatically pass whatever background check would be required, though using it in combat still would need a roll to hit. This is basically a way to bypass difficult skill checks by narration.
