Let us Increase our Knowledge: A 12hr day ended at sunset but the 24hr day ended at sunrise. The day starts & ends based off the movement of the sun. The sun was given the power to rule the day and the moon was given a lesser power that it should rule the night. Genesis 1:16. Some people follow the moon/darness/night and are therefore children of the darkness, but Gods children follow the Sun because no man can work when it is darkness. The first work God did in creation was create light which he named Day. Once this work was completed the evening(sunset) began to approach and when the moons time of rulership was up the day(Light) would rule again. The rising & setting of man again is based upon the movement of the sun. When the scripture says 'and evening and morning were the first day' it is not speaking of Night(#H3915) it is speaking of #H6153 which is the evening and represents the end of the suns rulership(sunset). Evening focuses on the afternoon, the time inbetween 9th hour and sunset. Look at the scripture that refers to Even until Even. That is not in reference to night time. Again it references the setting of the sun to the setting of the sun. Let's re-examine (Mark 13:35-37) Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even(sunset), or at midnight(darkness), or at the cockcrowing(sunrise), or in the morning(day). Time here is broken into 4 parts. (Even sunset), Midnight(Night) Cockcrow(Sunrise) and Morning(Day)6am-3pm). It's saying the day of atonement is from Dusk till Dawn. They took messiah's body down after the evening began (Mark 15:33). If the evening starts the sabbath then they broke the law. If the day starts at Evening, then mary went to the tomb roughly, 12hrs into the day and if messiah visited the disciples in the evening then it couldn't have been (the same day) yet the scripture says it was the same day. - John 20:19 - When therefore it was evening on that day, the first day of the week,and when the doors were shut where the taught ones met, for fear of the Yehuḏim, יהושע , messiah came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace to you.” Another example refers to the offerings which the Israelites were required to perform on a daily basis: “Now this is that which thou shalt offer upon the altar; two lambs of the first year day by day continually. The one lamb thou shalt offer in the morning H1242; [H1242 = dawn] and the other lamb thou shalt offer at even H6153 [or, evening]” (Ex. 29:38-39). The argument that since “evening” is mentioned before “morning” a number of times in Genesis 1 (i.e. verses 5, 8, 13, 19, 23), then it must mean that “evening” comes before “morning”. But this is clearly not the case, seeing as there are also a number of verses which list the word “morning” before the word “evening”: “…the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening” (Ex. 18:13). Lev. 7:15: “And the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings for thanksgiving shall be eaten the same day that it is offered; he shall not leave any of it until the morning H1242”. If the morning was half of a day then the next morning would be the same day except thats not the case here when we re-read it slowly. Exodus 32:5-6“And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, Tomorrow is a feast to the LORD. And they rose up early [H7925 = early morning] on the morrow [H4283 = next day], and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play” (Ex. 32:5-6). Aaron woke up on the morrow H4283 [the next day], which was early in the morning! Notice the following account in the book of Genesis: “So they made their father drink wine that night. And the first-born went in and lay with her father, and he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she arose. And it came to be on the next day that the first-born said to the younger, “See, I lay with my father last night. Let us make him drink wine tonight as well, and you go in and lie with him, so that we keep the seed of our father” ” (Gen. 19:33-34). These two verses show that the night before the morning, or “last night”, was reckoned with the previous day and was not part of the new day which begun in the morning! If the day started at in the evening, there would be no such this as LAST NIGHT! **************** “Following the reign of King Josiah (c. 640-609), and especially after the Babylonian exile, a number of significant and enduring changes occurred in the Israelite calendar showing that the Jews gradually adopted the Babylonian calendar of the time…The day however, was counted from evening to evening, after the Babylonian fashion….” (New Catholic Encyclopedia, Vol. 11, section titled “Later Jewish Calendar”). Also see - “…shortly after the beginning of the Greek period, [236 BC] came the change in the method of reckoning the day, from evening to evening instead of from morning to morning as of old…” (The Calendars of Ancient Israel, p. 146). *************************
