the red button vs blue button thought experiment is interesting, but it’s already been tainted. The premise of the thought experiment is that you had no possibility to coordinate with others prior to the choice, you have zero information about what others are actively choosing.
but now there’s so much discussion, we know that a lot of people are thinking about choosing blue. everyone wants to agree that the would save everyone. now anyone who would have genuinely in the moment chosen red because they were scared to risk their life, well they say they would choose blue, because it looks like there is no risk! Everyone wants to save everyone! And we all agree!
But actually put yourself in that room. You have no information. You didn’t know this was coming. You have a button that has a chance of killing you, or a button that has no chance of killing you.
I think in that moment, my thought process would be “how many people would vote to save themselves?” And honestly, I think that more than 50% of people, when faced with actual, imminent death, would choose to save themselves. And maybe that makes me a pessimist, but if I want to live (and, personally, I do) then I have to choose the red button.
Or, maybe I think that only 45% of people would go red. Am I willing to bet my life that I am right?
People have varying risk tolerances and value of their life over others and thoughts on how the rest of humanity works. I don’t think anyone is a bad or stupid for picking either button.
And I don’t think it’s a good parallel to anything in real life, because we are not all making social decisions in a box. People coordinate. People talk to one another. People change their actions based on the actions of people around them. There’s also usually more than two choices.
Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

That red button blue button question on Twitter the obvious answer is the red button
Especially when it’s said that children would be involved in this hypothetical vote
Red is nothing happen
Blue button is putting your life and anyone you convince to push the blue buttons life at risk
Trying to test that red button blue button discussion so I am making my own poll
Premise: Everyone in the world is separately asked to press one of two buttons and can not communicate with others. If more than 50% of all people press the blue button, everyone lives. If more than 50% of all people press the red button, the people who pressed the red button live and the people who press the blue button die
Which button are you pressing?
Red
Blue

If you press the red button nothing happens to you. If you press the blue button and lose the poll, everyone who pressed blue will hear the worst sound in the world at moderately high volume for 3 seconds

The Button Problem
The main issue between the red and blue button question is that to the Red Button pushers the Blue Button is a death/suicide button that no one should press while the Blue Button pushers see the Red Button as a murder button that they must unite against. Both sides are assuming malice/self destruction. To solve this issue a third button must be added. The yellow button. The problem is as follows:
There are three buttons. Red, Yellow, and Blue.
If the Red Button exceeds 50% of the vote, those who vote Yellow will die.
If the Yellow Button reaches 22% of the vote, all of Blue dies.
If the Blue Button exceeds 50% No one dies.
Choose then which button
