Can we talk about all those people who fantasize about having a romance like in the Victorian era or the Romantic period? I mean, all those people who are women, do you know that you would be treated like property for your family? That your marriages would be seen as a political tool to establish social connections? That your husbands would have all kinds of rights over you? I mean, political, social, economic, you wouldn’t be independent, and even if you were born into a rich family with noble titles, you would become your husband’s property and couldn’t use any of those powers yourself, because those powers would pass to him, not you. That if your husband beat you, raped you, treated you like shit, slept with 20,000 other people, or did satanic rituals in your living room, and you wanted a divorce, you couldn’t. And if you tried to run away from home, they’d put you in jail for abandoning the household and could take your children away, because the children wouldn’t be considered yours, they’d belong to your husband. I mean, do you really think historical romance is a thing? Because I’m very happy in the 21st century having rights, I don’t know. Also, people didn’t even bathe back then, it’s just incomprehensible to me.
