Maybe gonna say an unpopular opinion, but I hate it when people explain the Doctor's timeline inconsistence with the Toymaker's involvement in it. It feels so lazy and boring. Much more interesting to assume it is just what happens when you travel through time, especially when you travel as much as the Doctor does. Your life just becomes a more abstract and extensible concept that can allow itself having several alternative pasts, ramifications, etc. Imagine being a time traveler and remembering several outcomes of one situation. Imagine remembering several childhoods. Imagine them all being real. Imagine your past making so little sense so the only thing that matters is the current moment.
P.S. I know about the Faction Paradox. They too seem like a more decent and surreal concept than the Toymaker. More sinister and mysterious. Well, it is EU, what else did you expect, of course they explore such ideas better. Maybe I dislike the Toymaker reasoning because it was only just a thrown in line. Well, obviously a rich developed part of the plot is better than a short line about jigsaws, yk!
