These things are extremely Catholic - not exclusively, but you will definitely not see them in a Baptist church, let alone in 1920s Arkansas. Part of Baptists' whole deal is a rejection of high church hierarchy and looking as Not-Catholic as possible, so Zebulon would realistically not own these things or even think to own them.

If you want to dress our dear old pastor in his Sunday best, he would almost certainly wear a suit and tie (linen, for breathability and moisture wicking), maybe in a tan or navy blue. I could see him owning several "fun" ties. He might even don a hat for Easter Sunday and bust out his most pastel tie (which will match Effie's dress and even fancier, flowery hat, of course!).

@moonkais3r depends what you mean by cross necklace! if you're referring to a crucifix (depiction of Jesus on the cross), that is also quite Catholic/high church, so this is unlikely to be worn by Zebulon. (growing up I heard it said quite frequently that wearing crucifixes was "weird" because Jesus is risen, so there is no point to "putting him back on the cross." I don't think Zebulon would agree with this take, or have any particular misgivings about crucifixes. my point is more that the Baptist aesthetic, due to a certain approach to the Scriptures, leans toward simplicity and away from iconography or opulence. while Zebulon may not be the most traditional Baptist theologically, he would still look the part.)

now, a plain gold or silver cross necklace, with no Christ on it? Effie 100% owns several. Zebulon, unlikely, as necklaces for men in general weren't really common in the 1920s.

if you look up images of Baptist church goers in the 20s, you will see a pretty clearly gendered dress code. women wore dresses, jackets with long skirts, sandals/flats/heels, and sometimes necklaces. men wore suit jackets, ties, loafers. men's accessories included wedding bands, watches, pocket squares, sleeve buttons. you might also see lapel pins or tie pins. both men and women wore hats sometimes, men's more simple and women's with the occasional ribbon or feather. this all might seem fancy to us, but back then it was pretty common public-facing dress. importantly, pastors did not tend to wear anything to uniquely distinguish themselves from the congregation.

Idk how many times I’ve read a good fic summary and been so excited to read before clicking on it and being met with an ugly wall of text. When I see a huge text brick with zero full line breaks my eyes blur and I just siiiigh bc either I click out immediately or I grin and bear it…it’s insufferable!

AO3's posting form has two modes: Rich Text and HTML. the vast majority of people write in Rich Text editors, aka any normal word processing software (MS Word, Google Docs, Apple Pages, what have you). but when you first open it, the posting form opens in HTML view. if you paste formatted text into HTML view, it erases every piece of formatting, including paragraph spacing.

this is an easy fix. when you go to post your fic, make sure the posting form looks like this:

I have some that (probably most likely) contradict canon, but we don't know for sure yet, I'll share those if and when it's confirmed one way or the other.

I think part of her knowing all the things, for sure is part of her wanting to be useful to folks, sort of find and earn a place. Definitely tried a little too hard to fit in as a teen, tried and learned a whole lot of hobbies and that didn't stick.

I think, sadly, she's an outdoors girly, and a reader, probably not a big dnd or video game girl. (Would she like it if she tried? Probably)

She definitely had a punk phase, whether she kept it or not, or however long it lasted-- but it was to intimidate people bc the baby is shy. Hoping to get some attitude by osmosis.

She's a first-generation Polish immigrant, and her arc is very much tied up in that and in how she feels like she has to be the best at everything in order to have any worth. She's a failgirl who got rejected from the NASA space program five times. She spent two weeks hunting a plant monster in the vents of her ship. She Russian-Rouletted a guy into turning off the bomb he was trying to blow up the ship with. She killed the main villain of the series with the same harpoon she used to kill the plant monster. She loves her crew and would protect them with her life. She learns to embrace her own identity outside of externally-given roles. She's frighteningly competitive in board games. What's not to love?

There's nothing hotter than a beat up woman who shoots a harpoon. And Minkowski is that woman.
