Pedro thought this was something Fermin had outgrown in high school, something secret they could lock away in his past or risk him being admitted for treatment. The very thought has Pedro nauseous with fear, no less so thinking about how he's going to care for Fermin with classes and Fermin's job complicating things. The thing is, Fermin isn't supposed to have ruts. Any sane person would have taken Fermin in to be medically managed, all the way up to surgical sterilization or medical sedation if they can't fix the problem with less invasive therapies. Pedro has read about it before.

He didn't pull rank. He didn't. When Pedro kicked Fermin out of the bedroom so he could study, it was the same way he would a brother that was bothering him while he did his homework. Not a cruel master telling the mutt to git. Still, Pedro finds himself suddenly unable to concentrate on his textbook, incapable of reading his own notes. No. Pedro can only feel the weight of Fermin across his back where the dog had leaned over him, murmuring against his ear, "Remember this, later." He'd left then, with the press of a gratuitous kiss to the shell of Pedro's ear. Pedro can still feel the warmth of Fermin's mouth, hear the smack of the kiss.
