For that reason, I'm going to name the chassis that I recognize, in order, so that hopefully someone fills in the blanks and/or corrects me.

The irony is that Boomer Republicans *love* that aphorism when it's like, babes, *you are the weak men causing the hard times*.

Their parents worked hard to bring about prosperity and lavished them with opportunities, and then they hoard it all for themselves and screw over the younger generations. They tear down systems that they benefited from to get lower taxes for themselves. They fight tooth and nail against the construction of more affordable housing to keep their own home values high. They went to college for cheap, then tore that access down behind them. They grew up selfish and spoiled, the Me Generation, and now the rest of us have to clean up the mess they made by not maintaining the systems they benefited from.

Do you believe that atmospheric only fighters still have a place? And if so could they be a first rank combat vehicle? Or more of a garrison duty type of situation?

I do indeed believe so. Not necessarily as an offensive front-rank choice, but they are valuable, especially for worlds that may not have the industrial ability to manufacture true aerospace fighters.

And the heavier forms of conventional military aircraft have their place as well. The Torrent bomber alone justifies this, given its truly remarkable service record of over 1000 years — the Capellans restarted production during the Jihad, and have maintained it ever since. The new SLDF has also restarted production of the design by my order — though ours are considerably more advanced, and come in a variety of variants for specific tasks.

Battletechs have the same issues with aircraft that tanks IRL do. Atmo only aircraft dropping bombs on mechs is a serious tactic. The Rifleman was designed for a reason. Shame it wasn't designed well.

For years after 9/11 we were constantly told “NEVER FORGET” and the idea was basically “keep feeling sad and afraid and especially ANGRY forever; don’t let time dull your emotional response like it’s naturally supposed to; continue to justify the injustices by feeling this way all the time.” And the 3000 deaths were constantly pointed to as this huge deal that justified any lengths to go to.

And then Covid hit. And there were several points during the height of the pandemic (because fun fact, according to the actual definitions of a pandemic, *it’s not technically over yet!* ) where we were having a 9/11’s worth of deaths every week or so. And suddenly 3000 deaths were not a big deal at all. Instead of being enough reason to go to war far away and strip us at home of many rights too, they weren’t even enough justification to make people wear a damn piece of fabric over their face.

3000 people died once and now the government can legally wiretap anyone without a warrant, and hold people at Gitmo under suspicion of terrorism (no need for due process)… 3000 people dying every week but we should all still be going out to brunch and concerts and who cares about the disabled and immunocompromised?

Something in me broke. Make all the 9/11 jokes you want.

Seeing people I know and like using AI is making me understand the protagonists of those old time sci fi dystopia's.

"Oh I don't normally use AI, I just wanted it to plan my trip"

You lived on this planet for decades, you know what you like, there are hundreds of websites where you can type into any search engine " things to do in [area]" and have at least a hundred different options.

"Oh I only use it so I can figure out what to make during the week with what I have"

The most popular website as you type in "recipes" into google have sections where you click dinner- quick and easy and those usually rely on staples + 1 or 2 items. I found 30 recipes on chicken alone.

"I had a writing idea, so I typed a few sentences into Chat GPT and I was able to write 20 pages with it."

For those who don't know, Planet Sheliak, a planet in the Draconis Combine with no strategic or resource value, had no defense garrison. Nobody would invade it, so there was no point, especially because it wasn't near any front lines. Even during the Clan Invasion, they received no defense forces.

So when Clan Ghost Bear invasion forces appeared in orbit in December 3051, the planetary government started panicking. Of all people, an American Football commissioner came up with a plan, and the government agreed to try it. They assumed the Clans would be ignorant of American Football, so they proposed a challenge. If Clan Ghost Bear won a game against the Sheliak Professional Football League, they would claim the planet. If they lost, Sheliak would remain free.

The Clans were not ignorant of American Football. In fact, they greatly enjoy it. They sent a team of Elementals. Elementals are the name for the Clans power armor infantry, and their operators. Said operators are 8 foot tall, genetically-engineered super soldiers.

Clan Ghost Bear won 84-3. The planetary government surrendered the planet as agreed. Clan Ghost Bear was impressed, both by the government issuing and honouring a challenge, and by the football team for their skill and actually being able to score any points.
