I think there's a decent and growing chance we get a basically fully technological not social solution to climate change and I think it's kind of funny

from heavily subsidized chinese factories, in which case the social solution was communism with chinese characteristics and xi jinping thought

the only social solution would have been a drastic decline in energy usage and living standards, right? and of course most threats (non-anthropogenic climate change, volcanoes, asteroids) have no social solution at all besides "die".

The social solution side would be a reduction in waste and consumption that doesn’t impact living standards. Eg mass transit, plastic reduction, mass recycling, and probably communizing distribution and availability of many basic consumer goods. You’d have less fashion and no year-round fruit availability, and less meat consumption.

how do you square that with "doesn't impact living standards"

Does your standard of living depend on fashion and bananas?

what a bizarre question! I think most people would consider a reduction in the availability of food and clothing to impact their living standards; you could point out various compensatory factors but in isolation that's absolutely a concern, much like a reduction in the availability of travel or housing or anything else that depends on energy inputs.

stop letting miserable people on the internet convince you that you must have a concrete, well-constructed opinion on everything that has ever existed.
